McDowell New Executive Assistant
to Lake Junaluska Executive Director

Tammy McDowell

Lake Junaluska, N.C. - Starting September 15, Mrs. Tammy McDowell will take on her new role as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. McDowell has worked for Lake Junaluska since 2002, serving most recently as the Administrative Assistant to the Ministry with Young People's office.

"Tammy has been an excellent employee for Lake Junaluska," said Jimmy L. Carr, Executive Director of Lake Junaluska. "She has wonderful skills and is a great provider of Christian hospitality with everyone in which she comes into contact."

Mrs. McDowell is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Montreat College. She is a member of Harris Chapel AME Zion Church in Canton where she has served as Church Secretary for 10 years and is involved in the local community as the Chair of the Haywood County Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee that holds an annual prayer breakfast at Lake Junaluska.

McDowell will fill the position formerly held by Mrs. Susan Dolata, who will celebrate her retirement September 14. Mrs. Dolata has served as Executive Assistant to Lake Junaluska for the past eight years. Full story available at www.lakejunaluska.com/executive-assistant-2010

Leader focus: Dr. Mary John Dye
Dr. Mary John Dye is presently serving the WNC Annual Conference as Superintendent of the Statesville District. Her term as Dr. Mary John Dyesuperintendent follows 26 years as a pastor in churches of all sizes and settings. Dr. Dye began her ministry as the first cross-racial appointment in the Mississippi Conference. Rev. Dr. Reginald Mallett Passes

Reginald Mallett

Rev. Dr. Reginald Mallett of England, whose passion for ministry to both the body and soul touched many lives at Lake Junaluska and around the world, passed away September 8, 2010. For over 44 years, Mallett traveled around the globe spreading the Gospel, frequently visiting Lake Junaluska to preach.

In 2009, Mallet celebrated 44 years of preaching and ministry at Lake Junaluska with a special worship service, "Offer Them Christ." Dr. Mallett had been compared to preaching great Billy Graham, as he had conducted preaching missions in many United Methodist Churches throughout the Southeastern Jurisdiction over the years. Deacon/Diakonate Gathering

Gary Gunderson, Deacon in Full Connection in the Memphis Conference and the Director of Methodist Healthcare in Memphis, will be the Gathering speaker.

The focus of the gathering, "The Diakonate - Bridging Brokenness, Toward Healing and Wholeness," will center on health, spirituality, and wholeness for those in full-time Ministry and for those they serve in ministry.
