Copper Theft: A Community Problem

It's just a piece of metal to some, but when thieves see copper, they see an opportunity to make some quick cash. Law enforcement officials attribute the increase in copper theft to a down economy and rising prices for scrap metals-and with the price of copper hitting all time highs, its ability to tempt thieves has escalated.

Imperial Irrigation District continues to have major ongoing thefts of copper wire from numerous substations, electrical boxes and power poles. Last year metal theft cost the IID, and its ratepayers, more than a million dollars. Not only do these thefts cost money, they also weaken the reliability and stability of our electric system.

IID is offering rewards of up to $2,500.00 for the information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals stealing metal from district facilities. Anyone seeing suspicious activity in progress is encouraged to call 911 immediately. For more information about copper theft, visit www.iid.com/metaltheft, or call us at 1-800-303-7756.

National City Tourism Marketing District

National City, less than 10 minutes from downtown San Diego, is a visitor-friendly destination filled with historic charm and vibrant culture. As the second-oldest city in the San Diego region, National City has numerous historic points of interest. And, with a newly developed marina, National City has made great strides in providing visitors with a wide selection of dining options.

The Santa Fe Rail Depot is the only original transcontinental railroad terminus in the United States that is still standing. The city has also preserved Brick Row; ten houses originally constructed for the executives of the Santa Fe Railroad that were designed after the row houses in Philadelphia.

In the center of it all, National City is minutes from some of the most popular things to do and places to see in San Diego County yet boasts a sparkling new marina of its own and two  waterfront restaurants. The Waterfront Grill at Pier 32 offers outdoor dining along the marina with a variety of fresh fish entrees and Buster's Beach House offers views of the marina from its location immediately off the Bay Marina exit along Interstate 5.

National City has more than a dozen lodging options from a AAA-3 Diamond hotel to a bed and breakfast. All hotels offer affordable rates - some of the lowest in the county -- and include Best Western Marina Gateway, Carlill Auto Court, Clarion South Bay, Grand Plaza Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Howard Johnson Express, National City Motel, Paradise Motel, Rodeway Inn, Stardust Inn, Super 8 Motel and Sweetwater Inn.

LABOR READY for your additional staffing needs. We are the nation's leader in the temporary labor industry. We became the leader by offering our customers outstanding service and good dependable employees. We have almost 700 offices nationally, in all 50 states.

What LABOR READY does differently:

  • LABOR READY screens our workers daily - Though many companies request, and receive the same workers day after day, we dispatch workers to you from our office, not their homes.
  • We open our labor halls at 5:30am, and they fill with motivated, safety conscious workers wanting to work that day- This enables us to quickly replace or add to your crew

We guarantee your complete satisfaction by requiring our new workers to

qualify on a behavioral screening tool scientifically designed by American

Tescor, one of the nation's leading developers of employee screening tools.

  • NO BUY OUT FEE'S - No fees to hire our worker(s) permanently- We only require a four hour minimum on any job.
