We kick off our season with THE STUDENT PRINCE. This Sigmund Romberg musical operetta, cut from the same cloth as our favorite Gilbert and Sullivan pieces, is rarely presented in the musical theater. The story of soldier Prince Karl Franz heading to Heidelberg to learn to live life to its fullest brings us all back to the romance of our school days. NH Theatre Award winner Raymond Sage will return to the Barn after last season's Ragtime. Raymond's Broadway credits include Camelot and Beauty and the Beast.
Sarah Schoch, who played Mother in Ragtime and won Best Actress in a Musical at the NH Theatre Awards, will return to the Barn to star in THE MUSIC MAN. This show will feature Broadway, regional and local actors and singers and furthers our mission of nurturing theater artists near and far. Anne Torsiglieri, a Barn favorite and Broadway regular, directs with Jesse Factor as choreographer.
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN is arguably the best Hollywood musical ever created and we are thrilled to bring it to the Barn stage complete with rain! Peter Hackett, who directed last year's The Mousetrap, directs with NH Theatre Award winning Keith Coughlin as choreographer.
A LEGENDARY ROMANCE is a beautiful new musical about an aging film director from Hollywood's golden days who relives, and tries to rewrite, his life story when a young upstart producer wants to make a less than flattering film about his life. Legendary Romance is part Casablanca style love story, part mystery, and part political thriller. It adds up to a significant achievement in the Barn's history and is a must see for the serious theater lover. Our New York workshop of this piece was so successful last year that a Broadway producer has optioned the rights. However, you can see it FIRST at the Barn! Our production stars Michael McCormick who has one of the longest running Broadway careers of any actor we know! Michael recently finished the Broadway production of Chaplin, but has been featured on Broadway in Elf, Curtains, The Pajama Game and more. We could never present this piece without your support, and hope to continue to premiere new musicals for the American theater.
We are thrilled to have the extraordinary Victoria Bussert direct LES MISERABLES for the Barn. Vicky's distinguished career has taken her from the Goodspeed Opera House to the Cleveland Play House and the national and international tours of Into the Woods, Barnum, and The Who's Tommy. Les Mis will be a totally new experience for all in the Barn's intimate setting.
We close out the season with Neil Simon's LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR, directed by B.T. McNicholl, who brought us 2011's award-winning Drowsy Chaperone. B.T. served as resident director of Broadway's Cabaret and Billy Elliot and brings a wealth of experience to the Barn.
