Thursday, January 15th, 2015

Join us at the 9th Annual Music Trivia Challenge brought to you by the Quiver n' Minnow, First Merit Bank, Yo DJ Entertainment and the New London Area Chamber of Commerce.

The evening at the Quiver n' Minnow will begin with beverages and hors d'oeurves from 5 - 6:30 p.m. with the music trivia challenge beginning at 6:30 p.m.

All that is required for the Music Trivia Challenge is a team of 4 (with 1 being the team captain).  Pre-register either by clicking here for the registration form and then e-mailing the form to [email protected], or faxing it to the Chamber office at (920) 982-6344.  You can also provide your team information by calling the Chamber office at (920) 982-5822

Any New London Chamber member, their employees or spouses are welcome to play.  There will be a variety of music played from different eras.  Be creative; there will be an award given to the team with the most "team spirit".

The special traveling trophy will be awarded to the team with the most musical knowledge / luck at the end of the game.  The winner can proudly display the trophy at their place of business.  The trophy is currently held by the "Howling  with the Wolves" from Wolf River Community Bank - Hortonville.

The 8th grade is currently investigating the variety of careers available to them in the future, and would like to invite speakers from our professional community to share their wisdom and experiences from their career field.

As a professional in our local community, your presence will greatly impact our eighth grade students' career study. With your expertise, our students will learn new and interesting facts about the variety of careers available to them and help them plan for their future.

We are looking to schedule speakers each week starting in January through May. Students explore 16 different career clusters. If you are interested, please see the schedule below and contact Mrs. Sasse in the Middle School Guidance Office at: (920) 982-8532 ext. 2208.

SAVE THE BIRDS UPDATE
Record Setting Year for NLPM
The New London Public Museum announces a record setting year for the Save the Birds sponsorship program! In 2014 alone, fifteen birds were sponsored. This brings the total number of sponsored birds to 31! There are still plenty of birds that need help, stop by the museum and take a look.

Towards the end of the year the Blesch Family sponsored the Juvenile Green Heron in memory of Dorothy Blesch; Shepherd of the River Lutheran Church sponsored the Rough-Legged Hawk and Paulina and Russ Krolow sponsored the Male Evening Grosbeak. We are still looking for a sponsor for the Female Evening Grosbeak. If you are interested, contact the museum.

The New London Public Museum has over 200 birds in the collection. Typically, over 130 are on display year round. Most of the birds at NLPM are close to or over 100 years old. They desperately need to be cleaned and preserved. We need your help! There are a number of ways to donate: stop by the museum and contribute what you want to the feather fund box or sponsor a bird for between $75-$200. All the money raised will be used to professionally preserve each bird and to purchase needed materials for long-term care. To find out more, visit the museum.

IT'S MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR

SOME LOCAL NON-PROFITS

Each year Fox Communities Credit Union Holiday Party also has a large silent auction thanks to many of our friends.  The staff at the Credit Union choose who gets voted on from a list of local non-profits.  This year we had a total of $21,000 to give away to the group.

This year with the help of our generous community Fox Communities Credit Union (from the Fox Cities area alone) sent 2 1/2 vans full of toys for the Toys for Tots drive (which is a van full more than 2013)!

One little girl stopped in at the Calumet branch and donated the gifts that were given to her for her birthday, which she wanted to share with Toys for Tots.

It's moments like this that makes living here special. It may be cold outside, but we have a lot of people with a warm heart including our little friend Katelyn

Dear FNLPM Members and Donors,

At the close of another year, the FNLPM Board of Directors once again thanks you for your support. Our success in fulfilling FNLPM's mission of providing auxiliary funding to, and being advocates of, our New London Public Museum would not be possible without your continued generosity.  See More...

School District of New London POPS Concert
Each year the New London Intermediate and Middle School Instrumental Music Department holds a POPS Concert as a fundraiser event featuring selections played by the concert bands to showcase the musical talents of the youth of our community.  In additional to the concert, a drawing is held for the prizes donates by area businesses as well as higher - valued items in which the past have included musical instruments, furniture and autographed sports equipment which have always made our fundraising efforts extremely successful. All proceeds from this concert go to benefit New London Middle School band students.  Previous concerts have provided funding for summer band camp scholarships, trips to regional band competitions, a commissioned music piece for the Middle School band by a nationally known composer, and essential equipment for the music department.

The 15th Annual New London Intermediate / Middle School Instrumental Music POPS concert will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14th.  Since you have generously donated to our program in the past, we would again, respectfully request your consideration of donating an item or monetary gift that would help make our fundraiser event a HUGE success.  Since there is always a large turnout for our performances of over 800 attendees your support will be readily acknowledged by the public.
We also offer the opportunity to advertise in our concert program.  Advertising is available for $25 per business card sized ad, $40 per two business card sized ads and $55 per 3 business card sized ads.  For additional information on donations click here.

Staffing changes are underway at the Chamber office
Please see the note below from Corinne Sommer....

December 5th, 2014 I will be closing another chapter in my life and opening the next. After 6    years with the New London Chamber I am moving onto a new experience with Griebenow Eyecare.

I want to thank you all for everything; it's been a lot of fun. You've taught me a lot and I have met so many wonderful people through the years.

I will really miss you all. I wish you and the Chamber nothing but the best in the future. Thank you for being so supportive during my time with the Chamber.

The staff at the Chamber, the Board of Directors and the Ambassadors wishes Corinne the best of luck in her future endeavors. We are confident that we will have a continued relationship with Corinne and her family and she moves forward.

We are excited to announce that Karen Gitter will be joining the Chamber team as a part time Administrative Assistant beginning Monday, January 5, 2015.

A Note from Karen...

I would like to thank the New London Chamber of Commerce for this opportunity.   I look forward to my involvement in the community and will enjoy getting to know everyone.

Previously, I worked for Frontier Communications for over 30 years in several different positions throughout the company.   After a lengthy career with Frontier I made the decision to move on to new challenges. In February of this year I purchased a salon in New London that had closed and reopened it as the Copper Leaf Salon in April. It's an upscale vintage salon that offers a full line of services. After leaving employment with Frontier in August, I opened the other part of the business which is Copper Leaf Framing. It now combines two arts at one location, the art of hair design and custom picture framing. After having done picture matting and framing for years as a hobby I saw a need for that type of business in New London. The flexible schedule of the frame shop allows me to also work part time for the Chamber.

This spring my fianc and I also purchased a landmark home in New London and are currently busy updating it. In our free time we enjoy camping, boating, motorcycling, snowmobiling and traveling. This is a great area to enjoy all of these activities, as the community has a lot to offer.

I have two adult children, a daughter and a son and I enjoy spending time with all my family and friends.

I look forward to this new chapter with the Chamber.

Karen
