'Less for a Dress' drop off
Wednesday, Jan. 6th and Thursday, Jan. 7th
3:30 - 5:30 p.m. 
On Wednesday, Jan. 6th and Thursday, Jan. 7th, the School of Enterprise Marketing is holding a 'Less for a Dress' drop off from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the New London High School commons. Prom is right around the corner and instead of buying an out of the budget dress, at our Less for a Dress sale you'll be able to buy newly-used prom and homecoming dresses, shoes, and accessories for a much more reasonable price. As well as buying formal wear items, we can also help you sell your items. If you have dresses, shoes, or accessories you would like to sell bring them to our Less for a Dress drop off. At the drop off you will set the price of your items and on our sale date we will try to sell them. On the sale day we open our doors for all the young ladies looking for dresses to come by and try them on. If your dress is sold, you will earn 90% of the profit and the other 10% will be donated to Project Backpack in New London to help eliminate hunger in area schools.

"Pack the Trunk - Create a Social Media Strategy"

On Tuesday, Jan. 12th, the New London Chamber of Commerce is holding their monthly educational opportunity entitled, "Pack the Trunk - Create a Social Media Strategy", from 7:30 - 9 a.m. at  St. Joseph Chapel (please park on road).  
Get started on the road to social media success by answering a few questions that'll put you on the right road. This session will help you to start planning how you will use social media to effectively state and reach your goals. We will be discussing your objectives, your audience, and your topics to begin building a solid foundation for your success.  

This class will be presented by Rose Fields with Social Web Dzine .  Rose is offering a FREE social media review for your businesses to prepare for the workshops.

Open Mic

Green Apple Folk Music Society will host an afternoon open stage performance on Saturday, January 16th at Mosquito Hill Nature Center.  Local performers and / or groups will each share their favorite original and traditional folk tunes in a family - friendly setting.  Scheduled to perform are Dan Geddes, David Haas, 50% Folk and Caelin, Josh & Jim Anger.  Openings are available for other performers; young artists are especially welcome to take part.  The music begins at 2:00 p.m.  The cost is $5.00 / person or $2.00 for Green Apple members.
Green Apple Folk Music Society is a non-profit member driven group that supports local, regional and national folk music performances in northeast Wisconsin. Please be sure to attend this exciting educational and networking opportunity for Chamber members.  On the third Wednesday of each month from 8 - 9:15 a.m. join the Chamber in the St. Joseph Residence Chapel (please park on the road) for our monthly business briefing / networking session.  

 

St. Joseph Residence will provide coffee and snacks for each session. Come join us and learn what's happening with the Chamber and each other.  Each of you will be given the opportunity to introduce yourself and your business and share something about your business that you want others to know.  Use this opportunity to promote and educate yourself with the offerings of other Chamber members.  In addition, we encourage you to invite either an existing Chamber Member, a prospective Chamber Member or a public service person to the meeting. We will have a great prize drawing and a lot of networking opportunities.

10th Annual Music Trivia Challenge
Thursday, January 21st, 2016 
Join us at the 10th Annual Music Trivia Challenge brought to you by the Quiver n' Minnow, First Merit Bank, Yo DJ Entertainment and the New London Area Chamber of Commerce.
 
The evening at the Quiver n' Minnow will begin with beverages and hors d'oeurves from 5 - 6:30 p.m. with the music trivia challenge beginning at 6:30 p.m.
 
All that is required for the Music Trivia Challenge is a team of 4 (with 1 being the team captain).  Pre-register either by clicking here for the registration form and then e-mailing the form to [email protected], or faxing it to the Chamber office at (920) 982-6344.  You can also provide your team information by calling the Chamber office at (920) 982-5822
 
Any New London Chamber member, their employees or spouses are welcome to play.  There will be a variety of music played from different eras.  Be creative; there will be an award given to the team with the most "team spirit".
 
As this is a test of the participant's musical knowledge, the use of smart phones (or any technology) during the competition to research song titles and / or artists will not be permitted.
 
The special traveling trophy will be awarded to the team with the most musical knowledge / luck at the end of the game.  The winner can proudly display the trophy at their place of business.  The trophy is currently held by the "Howling  with the Wolves" from Wolf River Community Bank - Hortonville.

On Saturday, Jan. 23rd , Mosquito Hill Nature Center (MHNC) will be holding their Winter Family Fun Day from 12 noon - 3 p.m.   After the snowshoe races, join us for a host of family-friendly activities at the annual Mosquito Hill Winter Family Fun Day. Participate in the exciting snow-filled games for fun and prizes. Try your hand at ice bowling. New this year: the human foosball game and funky hat contest. Young children are sure to enjoy sliding down the otter slide and making a winter craft. Enjoy a leisurely snowshoe hike with your family. When you return, warm yourself by the crackling campfire and roast some marshmallows while sharing stories of the day.   Hot food and beverages will be available, so bring your entire family for lunch and stay for the afternoon. Don't be left out in the cold, join us for this "hot" event.  The cost is $10 / car and includes snow shoe rental. For additional information call MHNC at (920) 779-6433. First State Bank Supports  
Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign
Dollars benefit individuals and families in Waupaca County

First State Bank recently presented a check for $250 to The Salvation Army Waupaca County Service Extension in support of the organization's 2015 Red Kettle Campaign. First State Bank employees also volunteer during the Salvation Army's holiday bell-ringing season.
 
Money raised at the Red Kettles is used by the Salvation Army throughout the year to assist clients throughout Waupaca County with rent, utilities, prescriptions and lodging.

New London Winter Parking Ordinance
NO PARKING on any city street from 3 - 6 a.m. November 1st through March 31st. 

City Council just passed an ordinance to increase parking tickets as follows: $15 for all parking tickets except for Handicap and Winter Ordinance Violations which are $25.
 
If tickets are not paid within 30 days the fine goes up to $50 and your license plates will be suspended.

Sled Hill - Currently Closed
Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (920) 982-8521 or check out New London Access or www.facebook.com/NLPRWI to see if the areas are open. The warming house will be open during the park hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.  
 
Cross Country Trails
Hatten and Floral Hill Cemetery Trails will be open based on snow availability, we do our best to groom the trails as soon as possible after fresh snowfalls. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (920) 982-8521 or check out New London Access or www.facebook.com/NLPRWI to see if the areas are open.
 
Snowmobile Trails
Please contact Waupaca County at (715) 258-6243 ext. 1 or the Outagamie County Snowmobile Hot-line at (920) 832-4790 ext. 3 for information on the opening of trails. The lot behind Hatten Stadium is an authorized drop off site for the trail system. Snowmobiles must stay on the marked trails.

New London Veterans Memorial Foundation

UW Varsity Band will be returning to New London
Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at 2 p.m.
New London High School gymnasium 
The New London Veterans Memorial Foundation (NLVMF) is excited to announce that the UW Varsity Band will be returning to New London on Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the New London High School gymnasium.
 
The band, known for its exceptional talent, high - energy performances and audience participation, will be performing selections from recent half - time and pregame shows during the football season, music from a Broadway production, as well as everyone's favorite, the 5th Quarter! Tickets make great Christmas gifts for the hard - to - buy for on your list as well as excellent stocking stuffers.
 
Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors over 60 and students 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the New London Chamber office and Festival Foods. After January 1st, additional ticket outlets will be the School District of New London administration building, New London High School office, Wolf River Bank in Hortonville, First State Bank in Dale, and Heid Music in Appleton.
 
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the construction of the veterans memorial in Taft Park in New London and also provide a scholarship for a New London High School student. Sarah Bohm offers Thursday night yoga classes at 6 p.m. in addition to her regular Saturday 8:30 a.m. class.  Classes are held at 515 Fremont St. in New London.
 
Cost is $11.00 per class, with a $1.00 donation going to B.A.B.E.S. of New London.  Also available is a 5 - Class Pass for only $45.00 (Cash or check only).

ThedaCare Foundation - New London
Capital Campaign TogethER
 
ThedaCare Foundation - New London is in the middle of a capital campaign called TogethER... Commitment to the Future Campaign to raise $560,000 to renovate, expand and upgrade our Emergency Department at ThedacaCare Medical Center - New London. Through the years the emergency needs in New London have grown. More than 9000 of your family, friends and neighbors come through our doors every year. The Emergency Department has not been updated in yearly 20 years so it is time to renovate the space to meet the growing demands. The TogethER Campaign has been designed to focus on safety, privacy, comfort and accessibility. TogethER these changes will create a more welcoming environment where you and your loved ones can receive the best possible healthcare at a stressful time in your life.
 
So far we have raised over $350,000 and now we need your help to reach our goal. Your gift is extremely important to help us create an Emergency Department to meet patients' needs now and in the future. Please consider making a donation to improve the way emergency care is delivered in your community.
 
If every chamber member made a gift of $300 (which can be distributed over 3 years) we could raise $78,000 towards our goal. Please consider a gift today.
