"Bad Check - Now What?" - join us for this interactive presentation by New London Police Officer, Ben Schmidt. 

 

Officer Schmidt will discuss New London Police Department's policy on worthless checks and will explain the paperwork and process used when "filing a worthless check complaint."

 

He will also discuss the information necessary to prosecute worthless checks as well as discuss some of the scams that they are seeing in our area.  There will be time for question and answers.

Please be sure to attend this exciting educational and networking opportunity for Chamber members. On the third  Wednesday of each month from 8 - 9:15 a.m. join the Chamber in the St. Joseph Residence Chapel (please park on road) for our monthly business briefing / networking session.  

 

St. Joseph Residence will provide coffee and snacks for each session. Come join us and learn what's happening with the Chamber and each other. Each of you will be given the opportunity to introduce yourself and your business and share something about your business that you want others to know. Use this opportunity to promote and educate yourself with the offerings of other Chamber members. In addition, we encourage you to invite either an existing Chamber Member, a prospective Chamber Member or a public service person to the meeting. We will have a great prize drawing and a lot of networking opportunities.

 

A monthly reminder e-mail will be sent out to everyone on our e-mail distribution lists on Monday the week of the sessions. Mark Your Calendar Tourism Commission's
2014 Concerts in Taft Park 

For years joint efforts of the New London Area Chamber of Commerce and the New London Tourism Commission have resulted in a summer concert series in Taft Park.  The park is located at 400 N. Water St. adjoining the Wolf River.  

Initially the concerts had been held the third Thursday in June, July and August.  In 2014 the Tourism Commission is planning to expand the series by holding a concert every Thursday in the summer months.

Bring your chair and join us at 6 p.m. each week to enjoy a wide variety of musical entertainment.  In the event of inclement weather the performance will be moved to a pre-determined indoor location.

A variety of family friendly entertainers are currently being booked for the 2014 season.  Types of music include; big band, bluegrass, classic rock, country (current and old time), folk, gospel and praise songs.

Starting in May through September, 2014 Goodwill Industries will be accepting donations via a truck parked in the Festival Foods parking lot every Saturday through Monday.  Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day.  The truck will be staffed to assist with donation drop offs.

The Chamber Board of Directors is thrilled with the growth of our annual City Wide Rummage Sale over the years. In efforts to meet the needs of current participants and attendees, as well as the possibility of additional participants, we  are happy that the Buyers' Guide continues handling all details of the event.

As the sale is being held on May 3rd, the April 28th edition of the Buyer's Guide will include all of the registered rummage sales and will be available online at www.NewLondonInfo.com or click here for a listing. New London Boy Scout Troop

Bucky's Restaurant Parking Lot
10 a.m. - 3 p.m. 

The New London Boy Scout Troop will be selling brats and hotdogs this Saturday during the citywide rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the south side of the Bucky's parking lot.

 

At the conclusion of their brat fry, the boy scouts will be helping unload everyone's rummage and loading the Goodwill trailer located in the Festival Foods parking lot from 3 - 6 p.m.

Green Apple Hosts Open Stage

Green Apple Folk Music Society will host a Peter Seeger tribute on Saturday, May 10th at Harmony Cafe, Appleton. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend but a free-will offering and beverage purchases are appreciated.

 

This event is the finale of the Green Apple 2013 - 2014 season and will feature local musicians performing the music of Pete Seeger. Barbara Hoffman, event coordinator explained, We're looking for people to present songs that were written by and / or performed by Seeger, especially songs that involve the audience and convey the spirit of community that his music always did so well.

Mosquito Hill Nature Center  

to hold Saturday Morning Walks 

Beginning May 3rd Mosquito Hill Nature Center is holding Saturday morning walks from 7 - 10 a.m.  Join us for any or all of these Saturday morning walks. All skill levels are welcome. MUSEUM SCIENCE DISCOVERY DAY!

The New London Public Museum continues our new family science series with Messy Science! On Saturday, May 10th, get messy at the New London Public Museum.  Put on your old clothes and stop by the museum for demonstrations and hands-on science experiments in the green space beside the museum, weather permitting. If it rains, we will just move inside.  Get the entire family involved as we play with science. Drop-in anytime 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  The program is free and great for ages 6 and up.  Reservations are recommended but not required.  The first 25 to register win a prize.  Call the museum today at (920) 982-8520 to sign up.

Old Glory Honor Flight of NE Wisconsin
Veteran Flight - Thursday, May 8th

On Thursday, May 8th, Old Glory Honor Flight of NE Wisconsin will have a flight of veterans going to Washington DC to visit the war memorials.  Old Glory Honor Flight of NE Wisconsin is dedicated to transporting our local WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor.  Their mission is to offer local World War II veterans a memorable, safe and rewarding tour of honor to our nation's capital. They invite the public to come to Outagamie County Regional Airport in Greenville at 7:30 p.m. for the Welcome Home.  The plane arrives around 8:15 p.m.  Free parking is available to all those who come to welcome home the flights.  Click here for additional information on Old Glory Honor Flight of NE Wisconsin.

Growing Green Event -
Saturday, May 10th 

On Saturday, May 10th, Mosquito Hill Nature Center (MHNC) will be holding the Third Annual Growing Green event from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Make plans to attend this event that encourages healthier living through gardening, eating well, learning and more. Vendors will share resources and sell healthy and sustainable products. Sit in on a variety of learning sessions throughout the day regarding gardening, attracting wildlife to your yard, healthy eating, and more. Learn how to start your own vegetable, herb or flower garden, no matter how much or how little land you have available. You'll get the basics on what to plant, when to plant and how to plant depending on your skill level, ambition and accessible space. Purchase native prairie or vegetable plants. Get a veggie sandwich at the concessions stand and have your kids make a garden-themed craft. Don't miss the raffle to win a hand-painted rain barrel. New London Youth Baseball 

Opening Weekend Celebration  

On Friday, May 16th through Sunday, May 20th, New London Youth Baseball (NLYB) will be hosting an opening weekend celebration at Pfeifer Park.  The event includes each player's first game of the season, team photos, a cookout, Amvets ice cream, raffles and DJ entertainment.  Approximately 380 children will participate in the opening weekend celebration.  NLYB invites the entire community to join them in this celebration of the beginning of the baseball season.  For additional information contact Jeff Muskevitsch at (920) 915-8092.

Memorial Day Observance
Taft Park - May
26th

On Monday, May 26th, a Memorial Day Observance will be held in Taft Park beginning at 9 a.m.  This year's observance will not include a parade, just the program in Taft Park.  Following the program in Taft Park a brief Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Floral Hill Cemetery (weather permitting).  Participants and guests are also invited to attend this ceremony.  In the event of inclement weather the ceremonies will be held at the Legion Post 263 Home located at 840 E.
