This year's novel Annual Meeting approach provides you with an opportunity to help choose key projects on which our parish will focus this year.  All of them are from the over 100 suggestions provided to the Long Range Planning committee in May/June.  All are ways in which we can grow our ministries, grow as Christians, and be a great neighbor to our surrounding community.
This is an exciting beginning to living out our Vision statement: St. Matthew's Episcopal Church is
"A vibrant community, inclusive of all people offering religious and secular ministries, bringing our community's diverse population together in the presence of God."
We heard you - now we need you to join with your fellow parishioners and be God's hands and heart here on earth!
Mother Liz, your Vestry and your Long Range Planning committee members look forward to seeing you this Sunday, Feb 12th. Don't miss it!

It's Not Too Late to Join -  New Book continues tomorrow February 11th

Looking to explore your faith with like-minded individuals over breakfast on Saturdays? If so, Cafe Theology may be for you. Cafe Theology is a group book study on alternating Saturday mornings from 10-11:30. We explore our faith and our view(s) of God together through books. On January 14, we finish our current book study, "Surprised by Hope", by N.T. Wright.

The next topic for Cafe Theology is early church history.
  • Did Jesus intend to found a church separate from Judaism?
  • Who were the very first followers of Jesus?
  • Was Peter the leader of the early church or was it James, the Lord's brother?
  • What was the conflict between James and Paul?
The book that will guide us in finding answers is "From Jesus to the Church", by Craig A. Evans. The book covers the 40 year period from Jesus' entry into Jerusalem to the destruction of the temple in AD70. This book may be purchased from Barnes & Noble or on Amazon. It is available in hardback and on Kindle. This book study started on January 28. Come and be part of the discussion!

A new block of Adult Christian Education  Classes listed below continues  Feb 19 and Feb 26. from 9:30-10:15 a.m., ( due to the Annual Meeting there will be no Christian Ed on this Sunday the 12th).

Scriptural Studies--Pastoral Letters  (Library): A small group study of Paul's pastoral letters (1 & 2 Timothy and Titus), written to encourage some of the first pastors of early Christian congregations in their leadership.  What principles of leadership do they hold for us today?

NOTE: Current Events (Due to overwhelming response this class will now meet in the Undercroft): Discussion of controversial world events and our response as Christians.
Parenting Group  (York Room): Support for parents of young children, as they seek to grow their own faith, as well as helping their children's spiritual growth. This group will be working through the book "Parenting Beyond Your Capacity" which is available as an e-book through Amazon.

St Matthews Restaurant Foyers

So, what exactly is  Foyers ?
Foyers is a fun and easy way for parishioners to gather together on a monthly basis for purely promoting fellowship among members. The objective is to enjoy the company of other parishioners and to meet new members. Foyers is also a means to develop new friendships and deepen old ones.
There's no agenda - just casual fellowship and a meal.
Come on out for some adult fellowship on the Third Friday of each month.

In Celebration of Valentine's Day:
"Love Your Neighbor" Clothing Drive
February 14 - March 15, 2017
Crossroads Community Ministries is in need of business type clothing for men and women.  These professional garments will enable homeless men and women to be properly dressed for job interviews and, hopefully, for their new jobs!
A clothing rack has been set up in the Old Narthex for your gently used items. Please make sure that all items are clean, do not require mending, are ready to be used (no missing buttons, no torn seams, no totally worn out garments) and are appropriate as business wear.
To help ensure these items are ready to wear when they get to Crossroads, please hang all items on the clothing rack.  Additional hangers will be available for your use.
Crossroads currently assists over 4,200 homeless men, women and children. These lovingly donated items well help those seeking work to gain employment and hopefully break their homeless cycle.
If you have any questions, please contact Sylvia Campbell at either 770-972-3130 or at  THANK YOU!
