CHECKLISTS
Welcome to the August issue of the NRMP Match Illuminator. We hope the new training season is off to a great start. We've been working this summer to address feedback we've received from our communications survey, and below we highlight a few new things coming this fall. Also in this issue is a conference update and a FAQ on communications with interviewees during the matching process.
Match Participant Toolkits and Website Refresh in Development
Coming this fall!

Thank you to everyone who completed our 2015 communications survey. We are using feedback to enhance the Match experience for all participants, including the creation of Main Residency Match participant toolkits that place valuable information about the registration, ranking, and results processes at their fingertips. We are excited about the toolkits and plan to launch them for Fellowship Matches later this fall.

Other enhancements include:
  • Tweaking the NRMP website to locate resources more easily
  • Creating new and improved tutorials, checklists, and FAQs
  • Expanding the Main Residency Match calendar to include a complete list of deadlines
  • Reformatting the Fellowship Matches master calendar

The hotel group rate deadline for the NRMP stakeholder conference,
Transition to Residency: Conversations Across the Medical Education Continuum, is August 31. If you have not already registered for the conference and booked your room at the Hotel Monteleone, take time to do so now.

Sessions Highlight
The meeting includes an exciting line-up of presentations on timely and important topics, including:
  • Review and Selection of Applications in the NRMP: The Program Director's Perspective
  • Implementation of a Specialty-Neutral Internship Preparation Camp: Lessons and Successes
  • Creating and Sustaining a UME-GME Handoff

Speaker Highlight

Pauline Chen, M.D., a New York Times columnist, physician, and author of Final Exam, will speak on Friday morning about whether medical school graduates are prepared to practice medicine. She has devoted much of her career to understanding physician's responses to end-stage patient care and whether current training practices prepare young doctors to respond compassionately to terminally ill patients.

The NRMP conference website   includes an updated agenda and information about other plenary session speakers . We invite you to join us in New Orleans!
Information Programs Should Provide Interviewees

Section 4.4 of the Match Participation Agreement for Applicants and Programs requires each program to act in good faith to provide complete, timely, and accurate information to interviewees, including a copy of the contract the applicant will be expected to sign if matched to the program and the institution's policies on visa status and eligibility for appointment.

In addition, it's a good idea to make sure applicants know the residency/fellowship application process is separate from the NRMP Match registration process. Remind those with whom you interview they need to register with the NRMP so you can rank them in a Match.
