BEI Researchers Garner Grant to Study Innovative Biofuels Production Technology

BEI autothermal fast pyrolysis
A team of researchers from BEI is 
investigating a new technology for converting biomass into biofuels and chemicals. With a $371,000, one-year grant from the U.S. Dept. of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-E (ARPA-E), the team will develop and demonstrate catalytic autothermal pyrolysis (CAP) in laboratory- and pilot-scale reactors. 
Student - Industry Collaboration Aims to Capture Energy from the Prairie

Iowa State ME students
Two teams of mechanical engineering students from Iowa State University have designed a system to convert prairie grasses into fuels and other products as part of their senior capstone project. They collaborated with Roeslein Alternative Energy LLC on the project, a partnership that has continued into the 2016-2017 school year.
