Know Your Client, Know Your Product
If you are reading this article you are in the right place. We are here to educate you on the Specialty Cruise Collection, the niche small ship lines. If you have done one or more of the NCMA training classes you are way ahead of the game.
Now the secret is to know your client. Have the knowledge in the back of your head when your client asks you for ideas. Or listen for the buzz words of small ships. "it was great but there were so many people", "I wish I could have seen more of....", "do you offer anything different", "been there, done that, looking for something else ", "I get so tired just walking across the ship", "looking for fun and educational cruise for my grandkids", "want to take my family on a trip where we can bond", "I hate flying", etc.
You want to qualify your client, know their budget range, no use offering something that is out of their reach. Know their age, their activity level, their likes and dislikes. Their hobbies; photography, wine, fishing, kayaking, culture, foodie, education, music, hiking, civil war etc. Many of the small ships have theme cruises which bring on experts in the particular subject. Not to give lectures in a big showroom as large ships but to mix and mingle and interact with the small ship passengers.
There are many new options in the small ship lines for 2012. New destinations, brand new ships, new itineraries, new themes. Our small specialty ships cover the world, both domestic and international.
