GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT
By Mike, MTW Alumni

My name is Mike and I graduated from More Than Words in 2009. Before I came to MTW I was making some bad choices, trying really hard to fit in, and was going in and out of lock-up and foster homes.  At the time, my main goal was to get a job but my record made it tough.  Luckily, MTW gave me a shot when no one else did. Working at MTW was inspiring. It was great to see people take charge of both their lives and the business.

Despite my success at MTW, I faced several challenges after graduation. When I met my fiancé, I became re-motivated to turn my life around. I went back to school at Porter and Chester Institute. With the support of my fiancé, and the patience I learned at MTW, I was able to complete an automotive tech certificate program.  Shortly after, I found a great job at a small car dealership where I have since been promoted to Service Manager. More Than Words showed me a path to success and taught me there are people out there to help. Today, I have a daughter who is almost 3 years old. I'm proud to be able to give her the support and love that I never had.

FORMER ASSISTANT DA VISITS MTW
By Dashia, MTW Associate and Geo, MTW Associate

Adam Foss, the former Assistant District Attorney in Boston and new leader of the Prosecutor Integrity program, came to MTW to present a workshop about Knowing Our Rights. Mr Foss gave us insight into best practices around interactions with city police officers and the court system. We found this topic important to discuss so we can make sure we create positive relationships with our community officials and represent ourselves in a respectful and professional manner. We also got to share our opinions about the Justice System in America and how we can advocate for what we believe!

MSA/COMMONWEALTH CORPS FELLOW ALEX JOINS OUR STAFF
By Damiyah, MTW Boston Graduate

For the last year at More Than Words, Alex was our Commonwealth Corps volunteer coordinator in Boston.  He helped MTW work with over 1,000 volunteers last year!  But to the kids my age in Boston, he was a great counselor, someone to talk to and encourage you to persevere when you only want to procrastinate. He was someone I could always go to for help about life or school or work.  We are really glad to share that Alex has joined the MTW team as a full time Development and Events Associate!  Thank you, Alex, and thank you to the Massachusetts Service Alliance Commonwealth Corps Program for supporting fellows to serve at More Than Words!
