Guest Speaker: Allyson Blandford, Project Manager for Workforce Recovery  
Allyson will speak about an initiative to address Indiana employers' needs as they relate to substance use disorder and opioid use in the workplace. 

The Sue Duncan-Jones Memorial Scholarship will be awarded 
to R.I.S.E. Representative Hannah Lerma

The Cathy Timberlake Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to R.I.S.E. Representatives Cole Martin, Caroline Minjarez, Jada NeSmith, and Hunter Royer

What is kratom?
Kratom is a tropical tree native to S outheast  Asia that contains compounds that have  psychoactive  effects. It is not currently illegal and can be easily ordered on the internet. 

How do people use kratom?
Most people take kratom in the form of a pill, capsule, or extract. The leaves can also be smoked or eaten. 

What are the effects of kratom?
Kratom has effects similar to opioids and stimulants including increased pleasure and energy and decreased pain. When consumed in large amounts, it can have a sedative effect.   

What are side effects of kratom?
Nausea, itching, sweating, dry mouth, constipation, seizures, and hallucinations. 

Does kratom have medicinal  benefits
Some people use kratom to control symptoms of withdraw and to curb cravings of opiates and other drugs such as alcohol. There is no scientific evidence that kratom is safe or effective for this purpose.
