Hot off the Press!

Volunteer BC has exciting initiatives lined up for 2017! Firstly - we are launching our series of handbooks - Community Connections. These handbooks are guides for individuals wanting to promote, encourage and match people to local volunteer opportunities. Special thanks to Anne-Marie Koeppen, Volunteer BC Board Director for revising the handbook to reflect the changing face of volunteerism.

Handbook #1 - I WANT TO VOLUNTEER
This handbook provides the step by step process on how to help people find volunteer engagement programs in their community. This easy to use handbook includes the benefits of volunteering, rights and responsibilities of a volunteer, latest volunteer engagement tools/resources, skills needed to be a great volunteer and the health benefits of volunteering. It will be made available on our new website. Feel free to share it with your network of volunteers.

Stay tuned for next handbook in the series -

Volunteering, Eh?

April 23 to 29 is National Volunteer Week. It is the 14th consecutive year Volunteer Canada has delivered the National Volunteer Week (NVW) campaign in partnership with Investors Group.

To celebrate all volunteers and to get you thinking more deeply about volunteering, during NVW Volunteer Canada will release a series of crossword puzzles that reveal the impacts, benefits and diverse ways Canadians are involved in communities. Some answers may be obvious, while others may cause you to stop and say: "Volunteering, Eh?"

Here is the  National Volunteer Week 2017 Campaign Kit to assist organizations to get a head start.
Canada 150

Canada 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge is a nation-wide movement led by Volunteer Ottawa in partnership with Volunteer Canada and Volunteer Centres across the country.

The Challenge is a a campaign to encourage Canadians to give 150 hours of volunteer time in 2017 in celebration of Canada's 150th Anniversary. Using - Volinspire, participants can track their hours and tell their volunteer stories.

Volunteer BC is supporting the campaign and will compile a list of participating centres and other resources to support the Challenge. For more information on the campaign, visit  www.volunteer150for150.ca or contact your local volunteer centre.
