New Wine! 7/26/17

Matthew 6:19 (KJV)
19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

As I lay in the dark this morning, I contemplated the dream I had.

My dream consisted of my leaving a former job and neglecting to "clean out my desk."

Now the question I was asking myself was,

" Do I really want to take the time and effort to return to my last place of employment to retrieve items I probably will never need or use again???"

Just last year, I faced a similar real life question.

My mother-in-law needed a safe place to live and since my wife and I are constantly home, it was decided by her family to live here.

We took our car garage and turned into a bedroom/living room suite.

My old mahogany desk was housed there-full of MEMORIES such as sermons I had written, old cassette tapes (remember them),even a reel-to-reel tape lodged there.

I had stored/saved newspaper clippings with my name, picture and stories, pictures of deceased children and grand children, Bible notes, letters, and numerous knickknacks.

The desk could have easily been cleaned up and sold for a goodly sum.

I thought long and hard about what to do and then made the decision:

DUMP IT ALL!!!

The contractor even tore the valuable desk apart and put it in the dumpster and thus, the NEW room emerged-bright and shiny.

Can you say "NEW WINE!"

Mark 2:22 (KJV)
22  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

OUT WITH THE OLD-IN WITH THE NEW!!!

I have yet to regret my decision.

I/WE have no need to look BACK!!!!

Luke 9:62 (KJV)
62  And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

It matters NOTHING about what WE "could have, should have, would have DONE!!"

DONE being the key word!!!

BTW, I made a terrible error in last week's sermon-"I SHOULD HAVE USED

Ezekiel 3:15 instead of Ezekiel 3:18:

Ezekiel 3:15 (KJV)
15  Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.

It figures that the ONE time I neglect to proof read my sermon, a major error occurs!!!

The old story is told of the very rich man who died and demanded his gold be buried with him.

When he arrived at the Pearly Gates, all the angels laughed at his desire to bring paving material!!!

Matthew 6:20 (KJV)
20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

My thoughts, heart and PRAYERS go out to three families this week-each of these lost an important loved one:

Pastor Steve Reeves wife Patty.

Theresa Dull/Biggs dad.

Pastor Ralph Martin's sister.

Each of their loved ones passed Tuesday-please remember them in your PRAYERS.

But "LOST" is the wrong word to use!!

They did not "loose" them as they KNOW where they now reside:

Matthew 6:20 (KJV)
20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

My beloved son once again chewed me out this week in a quick email:

" 11 days after surgery for brain cancer, John McCain went back to work today with stitches above his left eye.

BTW, did I mention that he is 80 years old.

You still have a lot of life to live!"

P.S, to YOU DEAR READER TODAY:

YOU STILL HAVE A LOT OF LIFE TO LIVE!!!!!

TODAY, turn the corner, close the book on yesterday, enjoy/live the PRESENT!!

And REMEMBER-

" NEVER MAKE A PERMANENT DECISION BASED ON A TEMPORARY CRISIS!"

GOD BLESS YOU!
