Paper Things
comes a heart-tugging novel about guilt and grief, family and friendship, and above all, community.
"Jacobson insightfully examines the dynamics of small-town life and strategies for revitalization as well as the landscape of Lowen's complex grief and survivor's guilt...A rich, thoughtful exploration of individual and community resilience."

Dear Reader,
Escape is never as easy as we think it will be. I set the story in a former mill town much like the one my husband grew up in. At first glance, the townsfolk and the dollar families have little in common other than their seeming desire for change. Yet one group pines for change in the form of reinvention, and the other clings to the hope that things will go back to the way they used to be. Both have to rise above their indignations. All of us (yes, even children) struggle with opposing forces of more and enough, happiness and sadness, hope and despair. I wrote this story to remind us that our joy depends upon our willingness to embrace change... that we're all more alike than we are different... and that anything is possible if we hold hands.
Yours truly,
Jennifer

Dear Reader,
August is sort of like the Sunday of summer, and it will slip right through your fingers if you don’t slow down and savor its bounty. Now is the time to squeeze in one last beach book, head to the Outer Banks for a long weekend, and sink your feet in the sand. If you can’t make it to the barrier islands of North Carolina, why not dig into a copy of
Meet the Sky
, a book inspired by the ruggedly beautiful area I once called home.
Meet the Sky
is a story about first love, letting go, and the unstoppable forces of nature. It will appeal to girls of all ages. Whether you’re fourteen or forty, it will sweep you into an emotional storm and leave you thinking about love, loss, and new beginnings long after you turn the last page.
Cheers,
McCall

Author Food Pairing
: "Sophie, the main character in
Meet the Sky
, was born and raised on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and born and raised on seafood fresh from the Atlantic Ocean. Boiled shrimp and soft shelled crabs are her favorites.
"Before summer slips away, head out to your local fish market, grab a couple pounds of shrimp, some nice plump lemons, and a can of Old Bay seasoning. Boil a large pot of water, and throw in your fish market bounty. Add a splash of beer if you’re feeling adventurous then boil and chill your shrimp for later tonight.
"Now the day is yours to enjoy. So grab a floppy hat, your favorite sunglasses, a good book and head out to somewhere scenic to read and relax. After a luxurious day in the sun, cool off at dinner with fresh shrimp, boiled corn, and a big glass of sweet tea. When your head hits the cool cotton pillow tonight, you can rest well, knowing you didn’t waste the waning days of summer."
