Candidate Submissions Being Accepted for CPGA Board of Directors Election
The process to submit your name for consideration for the Colorado PGA Board of Directors is now open. The membership in attendance at the March 27, 2017 Spring Membership Meeting will be electing three (3) new Colorado PGA Members to replace our outgoing Board of Directors this coming October. Each newly elected Board Member will serve a three (3) year term beginning this October 16th, 2017 at the Section's Fall Membership Meeting and ending three (3) years later at the same meeting.

Heim, Fisher Named Recipients of the Top 50 Kids Teacher Awards by U.S. Kids Golf
Since 2004, U.S. Kids Golf has recognized golf's best teachers with the Top 50 Kids Teacher Award.  This year, two PGA Professionals from Colorado have been recognized on that list.  They include Columbine Country Club Head Professional Bryan Heim and Alexander Fisher, the Director of Instruction at The Glacier Club in Durango, CO.

Revenue Workshop Has Something For Everyone
The Colorado PGA is looking for the best of the best to attend a one-day Revenue Workshop. This will be an intense, interactive, and engaging workshop designed for those who are ready to stand apart from their peers and have a real and lasting impact on the growth of the game of golf. The PGA of America's Senior Director of Player Development, Mike O'Donnell and Keith Soriano, PGA will be on hand to facilitate this groundbreaking opportunity.

G4 Summit Lineup Announced
The lineup for the 2016 G4 Summit is being finalized and already include a strong list of presenters. The event will move to the Denver Metro area for 2017 at the Omni Interlocken Resort will play host for the first time before the event moves back to the Broadmoor in 2018. The lineup for the Summit is as follows:

McCabe and Sieckmann to Highlight Teaching and Coaching Summit
The annual Teaching and Coaching Summit will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in the Denver Metro area.  The event will feature two of the brightest minds in the golf industry today; Dr. Bhrett McCabe and PGA Professional James Sieckmann.  

Two Certified Professional Programs to be offered in Sweet Sixteen Format
The Colorado Section PGA is offering its professionals a unique opportunity to complete the course work required for Certification in Teaching and Coaching as well as Golf Operations in dynamic group learning environments. Over 2 intensive days, we will work through the required courses in the Teaching & Coaching CPP at Bear Dance Golf Club (Jan 30-31) and Golf Operations CPP at Legacy Ridge Golf Club (Feb 1-2).

2-Day Rules Workshop Coming to Denver Golf Expo
The Colorado Golf Association, with support from the Allied Golf Associations of Colorado, will be hosting a two-day Rules Workshop concurrent with the 2017 Denver Golf Expo.

New for 2017, the morning sessions will be a standard classroom presentations.  In the afternoon, the group will be broken up and rotate from "classroom to classroom" for three 50 minute blocks focused on playing situations.  These smaller groups are geared to feel like outdoor sessions while encouraging group involvement.  

Finally, on Saturday afternoon, there will be a Tournament Director tract for PGA Professionals and club representatives who manage events.  This three hour block will be taught by Ed Mate and Mike Rice and is geared towards those who are already familiar with the Rules but spend more time enforcing them. 

The more guests you register, the more discounted registrations fees will be.  T he following golf themed pricing structure will be utilized:  Single: $75,  Twosome: $100,   Threesome: $125,  Foursome: $150.
 
PGA HOPE Education Seminar Returning in 2017
The Colorado PGA is teaming up with PGA REACH to provide specialized training to our PGA Professionals on the PGA Foundation's PGA H.O.P.E. program. PGA/LPGA Master Professional Judy Alvarez (www.judyalvarez.com) for an immersive educational opportunity set for April 12, 2017.

Tournament News
2017 Tournament Schedule Now Available
The tentative 2017 Colorado PGA Tournament Schedule has been released.  Highlighting the schedule are the three major championships for the year; the Colorado PGA Professional Championship (Sept. 11-13, 2017) will return to Red Sky Golf Club, the National Car Rental Assistant Professional Championship (July 31-Aug. 1, 2017) will be held at Highlands Ranch Golf Club and Valley Country Club will play host to the Senior Professional Championship (Aug 14-15, 2017).

Zaremba, Krieger Post Strong First Round Scores at Quarter Century Championship
Mike Zaremba and Ken Krieger finished the first round of the PGA of America Quarter Century Championship in good position. Zaremba sits in 8th place after posting an opening 3-under 69 while Krieger is in 24th place after posting an even-par 72.

Growth of the Game Grant Applications Available for 2017
Colorado PGA REACH Grant Applications are designed to provide financial assistance to facilities within the geographic boundaries of the Colorado Section PGA, that employ PGA members or apprentices in good standing, to develop and/or significantly enhance Growth of the Game programs that will attract and retain new golfers.

PGA of America and Colorado PGA Scholarships Available
The PGA of America and Colorado PGA Scholarships program provides college scholarships for children and grandchildren of PGA Members. It encourages and promotes the attainment of higher educational goals for the children and grandchildren of PGA Members, based on evidence of a high level of academic achievement during high school or college.
Note: to apply for either scholarship, complete the application for the PGA of America Scholarship only.  Your information will then be passed on to the Colorado PGA.

Employment News
Welsh Accepts Head Professional Position at Frost Creek 
Ben Welsh, formerly the PGA Director of Golf at EagleVail Golf Club in Avon, CO recently accepted the position of Head Professional at Frost Creek Mountain Club.  Welsh, the Vice-President of the Colorado PGA, spent 12 years at EagleVail Golf Club.  Prior to that, he served as an Assistant Professional at Inverness Golf Club, West Woods Golf Club and City Park Nine Golf Course.

Brown Retires from Meadow Hills Golf Course
Brian Brown, PGA Head Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora, CO retired at the end of 2016.  Brown spent 24 years at Meadow Hills, first serving as an Assistant Professional and then as the Head Professional starting in 1997.

Congratulations to Brian on his long career at Meadow Hills and good luck to him in his future endeavors.

Three Design Firms Selected as Finalists for City Park Golf Course Redesign

Three well-known golf design firms with portfolios that include Colorado mountain courses will compete to redesign Denver's City Park Golf Course.

The likely bid teams, which the city will invite to respond to a formal request for proposals in mid-January, are Landscapes Unlimited and  Robert Trent Jones II (the Palo Alto, Calif.-based designer of Beaver Creek Golf Club); Saunders Construction and  iCon Golf Studio(the Broomfield-based designer of the new Glacier Club in Durango); and SEMA Construction and  DYE Designs (the Englewood-based designer of Copper Mountain's Copper Creek Golf Club).

Three Colorado Courses Named Golf Digest's List of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses
Since 1966, Golf Digest's biennial ranking of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses has been considered the gold standard in the golf community.  They recently came out with their list for 2017 and two Colorado courses find their names listed among the top-100:

#42 - Castle Pines Golf Club
#50 - Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club
#73 - Cherry Hills Country Club
