NASSAU AND SUFFOLK HONOR
 KARL RIESTERER AND
WILLIAM FEHN
WITH  LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
________________________________

Joseph Gifoli, NY State Chairman of the Board and  Edward Maher, Nassau and Suffolk President/Treasurer  presented plaques to Karl Riesterer and William Fehn for all of their faithful service to our Bakers Association and in recognition of all of their achievements and the numerous positions they held.

At 18 Karl started a Young Bakers Youth Group as part of the RBA. Their first meeting in New York City in 1955 was part of the RBA annual convention.  About 60 young students and bakers attend. As this group grew older,  it melted into the regular Associated Retail Bakers Of America, and later changed to R.B.A.

In 1970 Karl became President of the Nassau / Suffolk Master Bakers followed by President of the New York State Bakers Association.  He was instrumental in establishing
the Atlantic City Bakers Convention in 1968 which quickly became one of the largest shows.

Karl was a director of R.B.A. for many years and became President in 2000 which was also the year for its Centennial and a International Convention in New York City drawing many International Bakers.

In 2006 he was honored at the Metropolitan Bakers Banquet for outstanding service to the bakery industry.

William Fehn has
had a long and glorious career as a bakery owner and  has held numerous positions within the industry.  He served as President of the Association of Retail Bakers,
NY
for over 20 years, President of the RBA,  and President of the Queens Bakers Association.

William was responsible for successfully negotiating the contracts between a variety of Unions and and the Baking
I ndustry
. William was also a key player in the group that established the Atlantic City Bakers Convention.

His passion for service was handed down to his daughter

BLUEBERRY STEAMED PUDDING

BLUEBERRY STEAMED PUDDING

Frozen blueberries make these seasonal treats the bakers' choice for ease, availability, and customer appeal for delicious holiday goodies.

5 tablespoons butter, divided
1 tablespoon plus 3/4 cup sugar, divided
4 cups fresh or frozen (unthawed) blueberries, divided
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 eggs

Using 1 tablespoon of the butter, grease a 1-1/2 quart microwaveable round baking dish or bowl and sprinkle with the 1 tablespoon sugar; set aside. In a large microwaveable dish, toss 2 cups blueberries and the remaining 3/4 cup sugar. Cover loosely with clear plastic wrap and microwave on HIGH (100% POWER) until blueberries are tender, about 4 minutes. In the container of a food processor, combine cooked blueberries, flour, yogurt, vanilla and the remaining 4 tablespoons butter; process until smooth. Add eggs; pulse to blend. Pour mixture into the reserved buttered dish; stir in remaining 2 cuts blueberries. Cover dish loosely with plastic wrap; microwave on HIGH until set in the center, 12 to 14 minutes. Prick plastic wrap to release steam; cover dish with a large plate and let stand 20 to 30 minutes. Uncover and remove plastic wrap; invert pudding onto a serving plate. Serve warm with additional vanilla yogurt, if desired.

Yield: 8 servings

What Would You Like?

A customer in a bakery was observed carefully examining all the rich-looking pastries displayed on trays in the glass cases. When a clerk approached him and asked, "What would you like?" He answered, "I'd like that chocolate-covered, cream-filled doughnut, that jelly-filled doughnut and that cheese Danish."Then with a sigh he added, "But I'll take an oat-bran muffin."
