Awarding Honorary Life Memberships

A nice way to make those people who are special to your PTA feel extra-special is to award them their Florida PTA Life Membership at the Presidents’ and Principals’ Luncheon in May.  This is super easy to do.  When you fill out the form to order your Life Membership, at the bottom, it will ask where you would like to have your Life Membership mailed.  In that box have them mail it to:

Vicki Drake

17305 Eagle Bend Blvd

Jax, FL 32226

As the DCCPTA Life Membership Chair, I will collect all the Life Memberships to be awarded at the luncheon and have them ready for presentation on that day.  Your Life Member will be able to receive their award before the entire luncheon and then have their picture taken by a professional photographer.

If you would like to let me know by email, or by phone, that you have sent in your Life Membership and are having it mailed to me, I will be happy to call or email you and let you know when I receive the certificate and pin so that you know everything has gone through as planned.  Just be sure to leave me your contact information.

Please do NOT bring your Life Memberships on the day of the Luncheon and ask us to award them at that late date. Due to the large number of awards that are handed out at the luncheon, we have to carefully script each one, so all awards need to be in the hands of the appropriate Council members at least a week prior to the luncheon day.

We are happy to also award Florida PTA Bricks and National Life Memberships by following the same procedure.

If you have questions, you can reach me at VickiLDrake@gmail.com or 251-3429.

The Teacher Supply Depot is a great resource not only for our teachers, but also for PTA presidents or their prearranged designee.  It is necessary, if doing general shopping to come during the posted giveaway dates.  It is the only time when limited items are available, and, we do not have the manpower to have people coming in daily to just look around to do general shopping.  However, if you have a special project coming up before a giveaway and you need a couple of urgent items, we will try to help out if possible.

We also need volunteers on a daily basis to make the materials ready for the upcoming giveaway.  PTAs that help out during the year, get special recognition at the Presidents’ and Principals’ luncheon.  Our next giveaway is February 2nd from 3 pm to 6 pm.  If the president needs to arrange a designee, contact Chris Buckley at 381-7480  or buckleyc@duvalschools.org.

The Florida PTA Scholarship is available for all high school seniors who are a member of their high school PTA/PTSAs or the Sunshine State PTA.

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund, in collaboration with several local organizations, has assembled a group of dynamic and driven Duval County youth to share their passions and personal definitions of success. Our goal is to amplify these student voices in order to uncover areas in which our community can support their journey to success in school and beyond.

We welcome community members, public school parents, teachers, school administrators and organizations working directly with local public school students to attend and join in the conversation following the student presentations.

Together, we will envision what Jacksonville would look like if all of our students had access to the resources they need to be successful. After the students presentations, participants will engage in table discussion to generate concrete ideas that address any gaps to support the students’ definition of success. We anticipate exciting ideas that will incorporate students’ voices and needs in a coordinated way.

Please join us at our event for an inspirational morning to help uncover ways to help our students reach their goals. Light snacks and coffee will be served.
