Newport News Public Library is celebrating the 100
th
Anniversary of Hilton Village by hosting an open house and Historic Hilton Village 100 Lecture Series at NNPL’s Main Street branch, located in Hilton Village. The programs are offered in partnership with Hilton Village 100.
Hilton Village 100 is hosting a variety of community events to celebrate and promote the distinctive history of Historic Hilton Village, the City of Newport News and Huntington Ingalls’ Newport News Shipbuilding. The centennial events are an effort to engage Newport News citizens in the rich history of this area and foster growth and revitalization within our neighborhoods.
As part of the centennial events, the Virginiana Room at the Main Street Library is hosting an open house August 18–31. On display are interactive Hilton Village and Old Dominion Land Company exhibits and a multi-media kiosk highlighting the community and 100-year history of Hilton Village. Main Street Library is hosting Remembering One of Hilton’s Own, Author William Styron on Saturday, September 8, from 3–4:30 p.m. All are welcome to learn about the author’s history in Hilton Village and Newport News during the lecture hosted by official Styron biographer James L. West III. Afterward, participants can take a walking tour of Hilton haunts associated with Styron.
