Greetings!
Yesterday, Shirah Apple and I visited UW-Parkside's Regional Center for Arts and Humanities for the first county visit to share the results of the Creativity Works! project and to discuss how the Alliance can best serve Kenosha County. Dean Yohnk, interim dean of the Center, welcomed participants from the arts, economic development, the convention and visitors' bureau, education and others. In addition to presenting regional information and an update on the Creative Alliance, we also shared Kenosha-specific statistics:
- Kenosha County is home to 1754 creative industry jobs, about 3.6 percent of the region's total creative jobs.
- Kenosha has a higher presence of visual and performing arts jobs than the region as a whole (19% vs 11%; 15% vs 12%).
Attendees listed among Kenosha's assets: - A beautiful harbor area hosting the Public Museum and Civil War Museum.
- A weekly farmers' market and lakefront access with many summer activities.
- Proximity to both Milwaukee and Chicago and the more rural parts of the county.
- In 2012, UW-Parkside will complete its state of the art Regional Center for Arts and Humanities and will host a "Year of the Arts" featuring more than 250 arts and humanities-centered events.
Over the summer, the Creative Alliance will be visiting Washington, Walworth, Ozaukee, Racine and Waukesha Counties with similar updates. Watch this newsletter for more information.
We are seeking a host organization in Ozaukee County, so if you are interested please e-mail us.
Have a great weekend, Christine Harris Executive Director Creative Alliance Milwaukee |

Deadline May 27
Do you have an outside-the-box idea that could transmit your love for Milwaukee to the world, an idea that needs some cash to get off the ground?
"Reveal Milwaukee," a project of The Spirit of Milwaukee, a non-profit civic organization, has earmarked a total of $50,000 to underwrite creative and persuasive ideas to capture and spread what you love about Milwaukee. Reveal Milwaukee seeks unconventional methods and unique content so compelling it helps build positive buzz about Milwaukee. The winning projects will reveal a part of Milwaukee in such a memorable way that it naturally reaches wider audiences. We're not seeking a traditional advertising campaign. Other than that, how you do it is up to you. You can use any combination of technology, photography, news media, social media, video, music, events, web, buzz campaigns, meme propagation or any means that you see fit. Your imagination is the limit. Each project will be funded up to $10,000. Learn More |
