Charlotte Works Launches Construction Sector Partnership
Through conversations with industry leaders, we recognize that the construction sector is rapidly changing. In response to ongoing challenges and opportunities within the industry, Charlotte Works is launching the Charlotte Region Construction Sector Partnership. Joining with industry titans including WB Moore and Turner Construction, as well as community leaders such as Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, the Charlotte Chamber and Central Piedmont Community College, the partnership will focus on pressing issues related to workforce, political climates, technological advancements and more.

Charlotte Works enhances training provider programs to improve economic mobility
Through funding provided by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Charlotte Works provides scholarships for vocational training to those with barriers to employment. Each year, we grant approximately 300 scholarships to individuals who may need certification to start their careers, advance in their fields or change careers altogether. Providing these scholarships are a key principle of our Careers4All initiative which advocates for workforce system change and to create a talent pipeline that meets industry demands.

2016-2017 Annual Report: A year of transformation
Program Year 2016-17 (PY16) has been a transformative one for Charlotte Works and our partners thanks to leadership from our Board of Directors and staff. With a new mission that aligns our partnerships, policies and career pathway models for a more effective workforce system,  we’ve created collaborations that have increased the impacts for businesses, working adults and youth in Mecklenburg County and the Charlotte region.  We’re proud of these impacts and our status as a nationally recognized workforce board.

Charlotte Works teams up with Atrium Health for Health Career Pathways Network
Charlotte Works was selected as the backbone organization for the Charlotte region's Hope Street Group’s (HSG) Health Career Pathways Network
(HCPN). It is a nationwide program designed to strengthen the healthcare workforce by taking a competency-based approach to sourcing, hiring and advancing talent. Atrium Health set the goal of hiring at least one candidate through this new process by the end of 2017. With the help of Charlotte Works, they succeeded in hiring four candidates, each referred by a different community partner, providing early evidence of the effectiveness of an aligned approach.
