The Fall-and Unlikely Rise-of the
Grand Avenue Mall

Creativity Works Here

The Grand Avenue Mall has been on

life support for more than a decade, and its chances for survival look slimmer with each closing shop.

Ideas about how to restore the former retail hub back to the condition of its glory days-from putting in a Super Target to building up office space-have been tossed around, though nothing has caught on yet.

But the end of summer marked the time for business-minded folks to step aside and let the creatives try their remedies on the dying

landmark. The result may be just what it takes to nurse the Grand back to health. Learn More >

Jim Mac Donald, Media Arts Consulting

After over 30 years in Higher Education Administration and Teaching with Milwaukee Area Technical College, Jim Mac Donald is continuing to stay connected with the Creative Community as an Educational Consultant/ Liason bridging creative industries to talented art, multimedia, animation, 3D simulation and gaming and television college graduates.

"With all of the knowledge, partnerships, successful projects and national educational models we have done here in Milwaukee, I could not just retire and do something else", notes Mac Donald. "There is so much talent here in Wisconsin that we need to keep moving forward to grow our creative economy here".

Mac Donald's connections to the Creative Alliance, Film Wisconsin, RDI, the Wisconsin Arts Board and numerous industry and agency partners allows him to bridge, network and advise to build creative projects, create new jobs and encourage new creative businesses to locate here.

Jim MacDonald

"I wish to continue the momentum that we started on an 'Accelerator Model', linking creative college interns to industry partners to build products and services that demonstrate this vast and valuable potential" In addition, I will serve as a lobbist to bring more industry here to Wisconsin for film, multimedia, computer gaming and animation production."

Mac Donald also plans to continue building MATC, UWM, MIAD, Marquette and other higher ed. partnerships to grow the articulation pipeline from K-12 through college and on to creative industry jobs.
