January 28, 2011

Dear ,

After our successful event on January 19, Creativity Works! is now truly moving forward, along with the Cultural Alliance of Greater Milwaukee. In the next few months, the Cultural Alliance will be expanding and
Shepherd Express Cover
transitioning its business model to serve the for-profit creative industries as well as non-profit arts and culture organizations. Click here to read more about our next steps.

We're also very grateful and excited about the press coverage of our event last week. Make sure you check out the Shepherd Express' cover story on us!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Indiana's Largest Nonprofits Launching New Businesses in Response to Tight Budgets
Facing near record deficits, arts organizations are getting creative about generating revenue in Indiana. The Indianapolis Museum of Art started a new consulting business, IMA Art Services, specializing in public art. IMA just landed a $100,000 one-year contract to manage the Indianapolis Airport authority's $4 million collection. The museum also has an IT consultancy called IMA Labs which serves smaller museums. IMA Labs and IMA Art Services aren't independent companies, but the staff members who work on their projects account for the time they spend on those ventures separately. The Indianapolis Symphony also plans to outsource administrative services for nonprofits. The symphony isn't planning to advertise, but hopes existing business relationships lead to new clients. It remains to be seen if venturing into the for-profit consulting world will be worth the tax implications and added demands on staff.
