Hope you're enjoying this lovely fall weather! Autumn in Milwaukee is always a wonderful time of year and we hope that you have a fantastic Halloween and end of October. 

 

We have more exciting updates for you, and as usual, there's something for everyone-- even our friends in more rural areas of the state. Arts Wisconsin is providing management training for rural arts organizations: check it out and spread the word.

 

Save the date! Creative Alliance's next event will be Tuesday, November 27th from 5:30-7:00 PM. We'll celebrate a successful year and, most importantly, welcome our new Executive Director! We're in the final stages of determining our new team leader and can't wait to have them on board.

Congratulations, Milwaukee Film, on a Successful 2012 Festival! 

The 4th annual Milwaukee Film Festival screened 225 films from 47 countries in 15 days across 6 screens at 3 local theaters. 

 

Attendance increased 40% with 77 total sold-out film screenings. The festival hosted over 100 filmmakers and film industry guests, including Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney.

 

And the Milwaukee Film Festival made 50,160 people laugh, cry, and expand their horizons with some amazing cinema. 
Congratulations to Milwaukee Film for continuing to celebrate, enhance, and inspire Milwaukee creativity through the Milwaukee Film Festival. We here at Creative Alliance couldn't be more proud to sponsor Jack Turner's Me @ the Zoo and support the festival. Creative Economy National Research Project Participation Deadline is 10/26
 
There's still time to participate in the National Creativity Network and Creative Alliance Milwaukee's national creative economy research project, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. The purpose of this research is to develop a national profile of how the creative economy is being defined, segmented and quantified across the nation. This leading edge research will assess if there can be a core national profile definition for the creative industry enterprises and jobs.

Have you measured the economic value of your creative economy? If so, you are invited to join us in a national research project designed to profile the creative economy in the United States.

The Pfister Hotel Seeks 5th Artist In Residence, Bids Farewell to Narrator Dasha Kelly

Entering its fifth year, The Pfister's Artist-in-Residence program features a working art studio and gallery that is open to hotel guests and visitors. The program encourages the public to interact with the artist and witness the evolution of each piece of work firsthand.

 

The next artist, replacing the program's first ever out-of-state artist Timothy Westbrook, a fiber artist from upstate New York, will move into the studio space April 1, 2013, and will continue working at the hotel for a one-year period.

 

The deadline to apply for the program is December 1st, 2012. Interested artists can download the application form by visiting  the Pfister's website. Application packages should be delivered to The Pfister Hotel's front desk, to the attention of Michelle McCarragher.

  

Plus, help us say farewell to Dasha Kelly, who has served as the Pfister Narrator for the past year! Join us for a two-fold finale event: the end of her dashaFEST birthday celebration and the end of her term as the Pfister Narrator.

Dasha will be the Celebrity BLUtender behind the bar mixing drinks at Blu, located on the top floor of the Pfister! A portion of all bar sales during this time will be donated to Still Waters Collective, an outreach organization that utilizes creative writing and performance art to build community, confidence and leadership for Milwaukee youth.

A Good Time for a Good Cause: ArtWorks Night by the River Benefit!

ArtWorks for Milwaukee will be hosting its fourth annual Night by the River benefit on Friday, November 2nd, 2012 at the Milwaukee County Historical Society.

Guests will enjoy sampling craft beers, fine wines and delicious cocktails! They will be tasting delectable hors d'oeuvres, a palatable array of cheeses and scrumptious desserts from Milwaukee's finest establishments.  

Throughout the evening, live and silent auction items will be available for bidding. These donated auction items include a wide variety of items and services from local businesses, as well as original artwork created by our Intern Artists. Additionally, the teens employed in our fall programs will be on site and attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from our Intern Artists as they showcase their artwork.

The goal of this event is to raise the funds needed to support ArtWorks' current and future programs. With your help, we can reach our goal to raise enough money to support our vision of a graduated programming model which will quintuple the number of underserved teens currently trained.

Arts Wisconsin Presents Rural Arts Management Training Program

 

Are you an artist, performer, entrepreneur, administrator, volunteer and/or leader who makes the arts happen in a small town or rural area?  And are you looking for inspiration, training, colleagues and inspiration to do this work?   

 

If so, you should sign up for Arts Wisconsin's Rural Arts Management Institute, an essential, training and educational program that brings together a learning community to benefit artists, performers, organizational representatives and creative entrepreneurs in rural communities in Wisconsin, Minnesota and throughout the Upper Midwest.   

 

Sessions will be held at the nationally-acclaimed Northern Lakes Center for the Arts in Amery, Wisconsin, November 2012 through May 2013. Learn more and register>
