Community Servings Honors
Serge Denis with
3rd Annual LifeSavor Award
Serge Dennis LifeSavor Award

On Thursday, May 8th at our 22nd annual LifeSavor, we proudly honored Serge Denis with the third annual LifeSavor Award which recognizes our extraordinary friends who have made a significant impact on Community Servings' mission and programs.
As long time Managing Director of The Langham, Boston, Serge served as Community Servings' most admired host and generous friend. Prior to his retirement in 2013, Serge and his staff hosted LifeSavor for 20 consecutive years, welcoming our 800 donors with grace, hospitality and delicious food. Most spectacularly, we barely saw a bill. Instead, Serge encouraged us to channel those resources back into our mission to feed more sick neighbors.

On the night of Serge's honoring, and in the weeks following, LifeSavor raised a record-breaking $570,000 - our most successful year ever. With Serge's leadership, LifeSavor has raised over $8.2 million to deliver meals to our critically ill clients.

Proving Local Food for our Community and Kitchen
As part of our Local Foods Initiative, Community Servings collaborates with local farmers, fisherman and food producers to increase the availability of fresh, local and sustainable food in our urban neighborhoods and in our kitchen.

This year we continue to host a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program which connects consumers to fresh and delicious produce from a local farmer.
Local Foods
The partnership begins when you become a  "shareholder," by paying in advance for your produce in the spring and winter months, a time when farmers most need the money to prepare for the growing season. Then, each week members receive a "share" of the farm's produce yield, lasting into the fall season.
Similarly, through a new model known as Community Supported Fisheries (CSF), we offer fresh seafood to our neighbors for weekly pick-up onsite at Community Servings. CSF initiatives not only bring fresh catch to socially responsible consumers but they help sustain a struggling fishing industry while maintaining a marine ecosystem suffering from effects of overfishing.

Thanks to the generosity of Farmer Dave's and Cape Ann Fresh Catch, extra fish and produce shares that are not picked up are donated back to Community Servings to become beautiful meals for our sick clients.

Nutrition Tip
While research on the health benefits of nuts seems to point toward an overall positive effect, just adding nuts to the diet isn't the key to longevity.  A consistently balanced diet and regular exercise are positive lifestyle factors that are unquestionably supported by science.
