internet fundraising
With the ninth annual Ride for the Feast only 8.5 weeks away, you should be on your way to reaching the $1,300 fundraising goal you committed to raising when registering to ride. The number one rule in fundraising is simply to ask. The internet can be a less intimidating and very successful tool to help you make a "quiet ask". Below are some tips to help you get you started.
- Personalize your Fundraising Page. When you registered online for RFTF, you were given access to your own fundraising page to accept online donations. You have the ability to customize this page with personal photos and text. We strongly encourage you to personlize your page and share why you are doing this ride. Click here to check out a great example.
- Put your Fundraising Page Out There: When registering online, you were also given the option to set up a friendly URL for your fundraising page. Once you've personalized your page, you can send out your URL via email, Facebook, Twitter or blog. You may even choose to include it in the stationery of your emails.
- Make your Quiet Ask: Email has shown to be a less daunting and easy way to fundraise. It has also shown to bring in results! Steps you should take for making a successful email ask include:
- Draft an email. Your email should include details of the event and why you are asking for support. Make sure to include a direct ask for a donation and include details on how they can make their gift (online through your personal fundraising page or by mailing their gift to the offices of Moveable Feast). Click here for an example.
- Create a list. Take some time to sit down and create a list of familiy, friends and collegues to send your ask to. Make sure to include those who have asked you to support them in some fundraising capacity before. Don't limit your recepients to just your inner circle; go broad, as you never know who may support you.One of our riders recently shared that she sent an email out to some of her collegues including some she has only had little interaction with. She was surprised to find many of her collegues to be so generous, including one who donated $140 towards her goal. The donor was inspired by the distance of the ride and wanted to contribute a dollar a mile.
- Hit Send. And don't be afraid to hit send again. Your email recipients may have intentions to give and it just slipped their minds. Don't hesitate to resend your email ask closer to the ride to remind them to make their donation. Include updates on your fundraising and training.
- Put your ask in the mail. You may have friends and family who still haven't embraced the internet. Print your email and stick it in the mail to those folks. Consider including an addressed envelope to make it easy for them to mail their donation in.
- Don't forget to say "Thank You"!
Remember, using the internet as a fundraising tool has worked for many of our riders, but your fundraising strategy is up to you. For any assistance on your fundraising efforts, feel free to contact Amanda Fisher at afisher@mfeast.org or Ted Blankenship at tblankenship@mfeast.org. |
connecting to the clients of moveable feast
When you commit to participating in Ride for the Feast, you commit to helping feed a Moveable Feast client for one full year.
In the next week, you will receive an email with information about a Moveable Feast client. We hope that by connecting you to one of our clients, you'll become even more motivated in your fundraising efforts and on your journey to ride 140 miles.
If you have not already, we encourage you to come by the offices of Moveable Feast to learn more about how we service our clients. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities to choose from including delivering meals to our clients or working in our kitchen, grocery-to-go room, or community gardens. Feel free to contact Amanda Fisher about volunteer opportunities or stopping by for a tour of our facility.
