EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S NOTE
|
With summer upon us, the SCMS Board of Directors and the Home Office Staff are well into the planning phase for the coming membership year beginning September 1. Now is the perfect time for you to consider volunteering for service within the Society or to nominate a fellow SCMS member for service. In this month's News Brief, we have provided links for access to information on the various committees within our organization, and for volunteering or for nominating someone else.
SCMS is currently seeking a new Editor for its scholarly publication, Cinema Journal. The term of the appointment is five-years beginning January 1, 2018. The term will be preceded by a one-year transitional period spent working with the outgoing Editor, Will Brooker, beginning January 1, 2017. If you are interested in applying, details are provided in this issue of News Brief. The application deadline is September 16, 2016.
You will note that we have included two surveys in this month's issue. I hope you will carve out a few minutes to complete each of them. The Board weighs all feedback, and views survey results as a valuable tool for the purposes of continuing to meet the changing needs of the Society, and for long-term planning.
The 2016 Conference Survey enables you to provide input about your experiences at this year's conference in Atlanta. If you respond to the survey by Friday, June 10 at 5PM CT, you could be selected in one of two drawings: one for a free membership renewal for the 2016-17 membership year, and the other for a free conference registration for SCMS 2017 in Chicago!
The Cinema Journal Format Survey is intended to gauge your level of interest in receiving the journal electronically. The Society currently has no plans to eliminate the printed version, but is considering adding an electronic delivery option as a means of being more environmentally-friendly. The deadline for responding to the survey is Friday, June 10 at 5PM CT.
We are also pleased to announce the arrival of Cinema Journal issue 55.3, the Cinema Journal Teaching Dossier Vol. 4 (1): Integrating Production in Film and Media Courses, as well as release of the latest ACA-Media podcast, Episode 30: Something You Do, Not Something You Study.
I thank you in advance for taking the time to consider volunteering for service, and for providing us with your feedback. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
