Referendum Question for Unincorporated Fremont Township Residents
At our July 9 meeting, the Fremont Township Board of Trustees will consider whether to place a referendum question on the November 6, 2018 election ballot.   The referendum would ask voters if the township board should be authorized to contract with a single waste hauler for unincorporated Fremont Township properties.

Having one hauler could lower costs for our residents, offer more services, reduce the wear and tear on township roads, and possibly increase recycling rates. We often hear complaints of garbage haulers going through neighborhoods every day of the week and we know our roads would benefit from reduced truck traffic and associated road wear and tear, which would be good for our small highway budget. We also receive complaints about leaf burning. Having one hauler could provide the opportunity for affordable leaf pick up in the unincorporated areas which could give our residents an option not to burn.

I have been attending homeowner association meetings over the last 6 months to discuss this issue and have received favorable feedback on this issue.

If the referendum were to pass, the township’s intention would be to form a committee consisting of residents from various unincorporated neighborhoods to make sure we are addressing all issues in the bidding process.

The ballot question presented to voters would read as follows:

Shall the Township Board of Fremont Township, Lake County Illinois,
be authorized to exercise the powers of the “Township Refuse Collection
and Disposal Act” as provided in Article 210 of the Township Code, 60
ILCS 1/210-5,  et. seq ., to enter into a contract for the collection, disposal,
composting or recycling of garbage, refuse and ashes within the
unincorporated area of the Township?

Our meeting is at 7 pm at 22385 Route 60. If you would like to email us, the contact information for our board of trustees is at the bottom of this newsletter. Please forward this to your unincorporated Fremont Township neighbors and encourage them to sign up for our newsletter by clicking here.
Don't Be Scammed
Residents are receiving calls from a male identifying himself as a Lake County Deputy Sheriff, informing the person that they have missed a jury duty summons and need to come to the County Courthouse in Waukegan immediately. He also tells them to call him back when they are leaving their residence. This is not a Sheriff Deputy!!!

The Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court’s Jury Commission office does not contact any potential juror by telephone. All communication by their office is sent via US mail on official circuit letterhead. If a citizen needs to verify their jury summons, please contact the Lake County Jury Commission Office at 847-377- 4600 or by email at  jury@lakecountyil.gov .”
Below are suggested safeguards, if you should receive a similar call regarding this Jury Duty Scam.

1.    Do Not provide any personal information;
2.    Do Not tell when you leave your residence;
3.    Document the number calling along with any information about the call;
4.    Report the incident to your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible.
