June 2017

Dear Fellow Deans,

Another academic year has ended! We bade adieu to a fresh batch of graduates, wishing them all success in the game of life. But as we all know, our work never ceases. Summer school is on and we are planning the welcome of entering first-year students this fall, not to mention the reports that have to be written and the strategic plans that have to be updated. I hope you will be able to take some time off to recharge your spirit—I certainly intend to do so!

New Graduates Join Alumni Ranks

On a gorgeous Sunday morning (May 21) at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, with seagulls soaring dazzlingly against a blue-sky backdrop, family members watched as 299 students graduated. There were 161 undergraduate and 138 graduate students who received degrees. The first two students from our newly created Master of Science in Supply Chain Management program graduated. Seventy-eight percent of all undergraduate students who received a degree had completed at least one internship during their time at Adelphi University. Al Trautwig ’78, 17 (Hon.), the Emmy Award-winning television sports commentator, was the main speaker at the event.

Thanking Donors, Supporting Students

The annual student honors and awards ceremony is a celebratory event that brings together the University’s friends who have given generously to support the School and the student recipients of scholarships and awards. On this festive occasion, attended by their family members, high-performing students were also inducted into the honor societies Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.

Volleyball Competition Connects Students and Employers

Students of the Accounting Society organized their annual volleyball tournament on campus, bringing together students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers from the area for a few friendly (yet intensely competitive) volleyball matches, networking, a hearty barbecue lunch and drawings for prizes. Eighty-five representatives, many of them alumni, from 19 firms participated this year.
