November 2017
Dear Fellow Deans,

Greetings from Garden City, New York!

Tempus fugit ! It is hard to believe that Thursday of next week is Thanksgiving here in the good old United States. We have much to be thankful for—from robust student enrollment numbers to strong relationships with employers to great news of alumni success. I share here a few stories that might resonate with you as we move into the season of celebrations.

IMPACT– Accounting Students Network With Industry Professionals
Our student club, the Accounting Society, organized its annual fall networking social event and drew record numbers of accounting firms and their representatives, many of them alumni. The event is a “must-attend” item on the calendars of area accounting firms, as it gives them an opportunity to meet up-front and in person all the accounting students in the program as well as the faculty. Several young alumni (pictured above) were delighted to return to campus.
ENGAGEMENT– Business Partners Recognized
At Adelphi’s Spirit Weekend, when alumni returned to campus to reconnect and reminisce, we celebrated, recognized and thanked 17 of our corporate and community partners. We cherish these strong bonds that enable us to provide exceptional learning opportunities to our students. The partners we proudly celebrated are: 1-800-Flowers.com, Inc., Bethpage Federal Credit Union, EY, The First National Bank of Long Island, GEICO, IBM, Kforce, Inc., L'Oreal USA, Marks Paneth LLP, MassMutual Financial Group, Merrill Lynch, Mt. Sinai Health System, New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal, Northwell Health, Penn Mutual, Verizon Wireless and the Incorporated Village of Garden City. Pictured above with the representatives of Penn Mutual is Neil Halloran (in center), director of internships.
INNOVATION– New Business Plan Competition Sparks Student Creativity
This fall, we launched a business plan competition with cash prizes of $10,000 for the winners. We received 27 entries from student teams from across the campus. Selected teams will develop a full-fledged business plan and then present to a panel of entrepreneurs during Adelphi’s Research Day in April. This competition provides students another world-class academic experience grounded in the real world.
