Welcome to our THIRD Beauty In Truth newsletter. We are thrilled to announce - to date we have raised 20% of our crowd funding goal for our film on the life, art and activism of Alice Walker. We are honored to have the support of Zainab Salbi, visionary behind Women For Women International, an organisation helping women survivors of war to rebuild their lives. She left this personal message on our donors wall.

I first met Zainab when I accompanied Alice to Rwanda and Congo. Alice, a patron of Women For Women International was invited to see their work in these countries. It was a devastating experience, listening to women who had experienced horrific violations against their bodies, their spirits and their souls. The work Women For Women International does saves lives and gives hope and healing to many of these women.

DIVERSITY

There is much talk about diversity and the need to embrace difference, to be inclusive rather than exclusive. Yet time and time again I have noticed that those who shout the loudest are the last to act, if they act at all. It is my hope that our film being made by a woman of color about a woman of color will show that we can create a diversity of representation without compromise, without capitulation to stereotypes and with the support of everyone around the globe.
I intend Beauty In Truth to reflect the universal resonance of Alice's writings. As one male donor to the crowd funding campaign says, "Alice Walker utterly demolished the shell of my mind and perspective. One of the best humankind has to offer."

As we move towards the 1 month mark of our crowd funding campaign, there is an exciting alchemy brewing - we are engaging with a global community, with a shared vision to live and stand firm in our own TRUTHS.
We couldn't do this campaign without you. We need each and everyone one of our friends and donors. Some of you have forwarded our details to your friends and are truly our funding angels; active ambassadors introducing the film to potential supporters. Our deep gratitude to you all. We still have $40,000 to raise and our campaign time is shrinking. Help us to keep the momentum going so we can finish the film. I appreciate how difficult it is for many people during these tough economic times. If you can't afford to donate, then please forward this email to friends, family and your networks - people who would be happy to support the completion of this important film.
