A Few Thoughts from Ed:

WOW!    This is it...the last month of the year. December is always a mixed bundle of emotions around here. Obviously we are excited to see the traffic flow of guests pick up but that is countered with the fact that another year is coming to an end. It is also a time of year to reflect on all that we have accomplished or failed to accomplish throughout the year.   I hope this has been a year full of successes, health and joy for you and your family.

For me personally, I have so much to be thankful for. First and foremost God has been very good to us here at CTS. We have our health and I get to come to work every day with a phenomenal group of people on both sides of the counter. This year Peggy and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary and we were able to cross off some travel spots on our bucket list.

I can't help but be so proud of our manager Deb Behary. About 4 years ago she stepped in to a very challenging position and has blown me away with her work ethic and dedication to our staff our business and our patrons. Her energy, passion and commitment to guide us to be the best we can be is unmatched. Deb has developed a team for us all to be proud of. Are we perfect? No we are not. Does she lead her team every day to strive for our mantra "Better Product, Better Service, Better Experience"? You bet your life she does.

I am also so thankful for the rest of the staff for the way they have supported what we are all trying to do at CTS. Together with Deb, their leadership by example and knowledge will allow us to excel in all we do. Thank you team!

You may have noticed that we have added 3 new employees to our team and we had one departure.  You can read about our new team members below.  We said goodbye to Paul this past month as he now has more time to play golf with his friends.

Ok, I guess I better get back to things that are important to you our guests. I hope you have noticed the increased access to the lanes as a result of the awesome class scheduling from Peggy. I could not do what I do and we would not be where we are today as a business if it were not for Peggy's partnership in every aspect of my life. tree

We had a great turn out for our last free clinic with over 100 guests.  We anticipate another huge turn out this month, so please be sure to call in so we can rent more chairs if necessary.

All in all I can't wait for 2019. We have so much planned for CTS, this community and of course you our guests. Stay Tuned! I hope the New Year brings to you and your families all that you could hope for.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,  God Bless...

Notes from Peggy:

Today is our 14th anniversary at CTS.  How blessed we've been.  I too want to thank our employees and all our customers for a fantastic 14 years.  I especially want to thank all of you for your generosity in giving to our community all year long through donations to OASIS, the food bank, the blood bank and Toys for Tots.  Ed and I have always believed in giving back and you have helped us do that over and over again....thank you.  Our customers are the best!  Happy Holidays to all of you and yours from all of us at CTS.

Our holiday schedule will be as follows.  Closed Christmas Day, New Years Day. Closed at 5pm on Christmas Eve...All other days open on regular schedule!  Come bring your family to the range over the holidays!

Just a reminder that members can reserve lanes up to 48 hours in advance with 2 hours notice.

We're always looking for new ideas for products, for free clinics or suggestions for the range.  Just shoot me an email (no pun intended) and we'll see what we can do.

If you know anyone who might like to get our newsletter, just send me their email address and I'll see that they receive it.   [email protected]

Consignment Corner

Welcome to the consignment corner.  Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.

We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns.   Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.

All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale.  Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.

ASK THE STAFF ABOUT EXTRAS

We have developed such a great reputation with respect to our consignment firearms that many of you come in and ask about our stock every week.

  If you're interested, don't wait!

Can You Say? Rental Guns or How About Try before You Buy?

I bet you didn't know that we have over 100 rental firearms.  We were the first range in the Western US that offers our rental guns by the caliber.   That's right, you pay $8.00 and you can shoot every gun of the same caliber we have.

If you are interested in a new firearm but are not sure which one, come in and try one out before you decide to purchase.  If you have heard about a new model and want to experience it, come in...we probably have it in the rental case. Also, if you purchase a gun the same day you rent, your rental fee is waived.

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip

Diagnostic Considerations To Some Common Shooting Errors...

Most of the shooting errors I see at the range are a failure to properly apply the two most important shooting fundamentals: sight alignment and trigger press. However, other factors may also cause a shooter to have problems in properly delivering a shot to the target.  The shooting situations listed below assume that the handgun and ammunition are functioning correctly, that the handgun sights are adjusted properly and that the shooter is right-handed. The shot groups for a left handed shooter will appear on the opposite side from the shot groups as described here.  Here are some possible causes to your misses if you are aiming for the center of the target but, are producing hits in the specific quadrants called out below.

SHOTS in Lower Left Quadrant: This pattern is caused when the shooter jerks the trigger, causing the front-sight to dip low and to the left before the bullet leaves the barrel. To correct this type of error, the trigger must be slowly pressed until the shot fires, being careful while pressing not to disturb the sight alignment and sight-picture.

SHOTS in 9 o'clock position: This pattern is created when the shooter does not properly place the index finger on the trigger. In such cases, the shooter has a tendency to press the trigger at an angle instead of straight to the rear. This improper press causes the muzzle to shift to the left, with the shots striking in the 8:30 to 9:30 zone.

SHOTS in Upper Left Quadrant: This is caused by 'riding the recoil'. This is where the shooter anticipates the recoil and makes the handgun recoil before it really happens. This type of pattern can also be caused by improper follow-through. The shooter releases the trigger finger too soon and may flip the finger forward, causing the front-sight to rise to the left. Errors of this nature will usually produce shots in the 9:30 to 12 o'clock zone.

SHOTS in Upper Right Quadrant:  Here the shooter has 'heeled' the shots high on the target. This error is caused by anticipating the shot and, at the last moment before firing, giving the handgun a slight push with the heel of the hand. The front-sight moves up to the right and the bullets strike the target in the 1 o'clock to 2:30 zone.

SHOTS in the 3 o'clock position: Here the shooter 'thumbs' the handgun. Just as the shot begins, the shooter pushes the right thumb against the side of the frame, causing the aligned sights to move to the right.

SHOTS in the Lower Right Quadrant: This target illustrates what happens when a shooter's grip tightens as the trigger is pressed. This target area is known as the 'lobster' area - just as a lobster's claw clamps together, the shooter's hand clamps or snatches at the last second. This movement causes the front-sight to dip low and to the right, pushing the shots to the 3:30 to 5 o'clock zone.

SHOTS directly below the point of aim:  The shot string in the 5 o'clock to 6:30 area is caused when the shooter 'breaks' the wrist - another form of anticipation. The shooter expects the handgun to recoil at a known instant and tries to fight or control this anticipated recoil by cocking the wrist downward. The shooter may subconsciously believe that the recoil can be lessened by holding the wrist down. This shot group can also be caused by a shooter who relaxes too soon.

SHOTS everywhere - No distinct pattern:  A peppered target is often produced by a beginning shooter. A new shooter usually does not consistently repeat one particular error, but instead commits many different errors. The result is a target with shots scattered in many places. Such a target may be caused by the shooter's inconsistency, including changing the grip between shots, focusing on the target instead of the front-sight on some shots, failing to align the sights properly and so on.
