A Few Thoughts from Ed: ed pic

Fall is here for sure.  Everywhere I look I feel and see the signs of one of my favorite times of year.  I want to thank everyone for your patience as we recently went through our annual bullet trap maintenance process.  This year was a unique mining as we had all our fines (pulverized rubber from 14 years of bullet impact) removed and replaced.  They removed 40,000 lbs of lead and replaced 22,000 lbs of bad rubber with new rubber. That should last us at least another 10 years.

Now that the mining is complete, we will be painting the walls and making sure the range bays and equipment are in top condition for our busy winter season.  Thanks again for your understanding as we continually strive to improve our operation and facility.

We were honored this year to help support the Friends of the NRA banquet by taking responsibility for the firearm transfer process.  We processed over 55 firearms for the NRA, and ultimately, you our local sportsman. Congratulations to all the winners.  I would also like to add a special thank you to our manager Deb and the staff for all their hard work in supporting CTS playing a role in the success of the NRA banquet experience.

We now have a youth size 22LR available for rent. This is the perfect firearm to introduce your young shooter to the sport.  This is an easy gun to hold and shoot well.  The perfect combination to allow the young shooter to have a great time and learn some life long lessons.  Come in today and share the experience with your young shooter.

Our class schedule continues to evolve and I am working hard at being creative with my travel to allow us to offer more and more advanced classes each month.  In that regard we are considering trying a force on force type scenario night each month to allow participants an opportunity to practice scenario response using our simunition guns.  Please drop me an email if you have an interest and would attend such a program.  If there is enough interest...we will try it.

RITON OPTICS has helped us put together a few Kit guns.  You need to see the great deals Deb has put together working with the RITON folks to offer you a firearm with the optic already installed.

A Call For Locks gun lock

We are in desperate need of locks.  We are required to provide a lock with every firearm sold.  This is not an issue with new firearms but with used or consignment guns we are running low. If you have any firearm locks that you are not using please drop them off so that we can share them with those who are buying firearms.  We are trying to avoid requiring anyone who wants to consign a firearm from having to buy a lock before we can take it in.

I am currently shooting a world championship competition in TX.  This morning I saw a Ford F150 drive over a $25,000.00 shotgun that the owner had leaning on the back bumper, got interrupted and then backed over it.  Don't worry, the gun survived with no damage...the case did suffer a bit but still works.  The reason I am sharing this story with you is that the case was an Americase brand.  Which happens to be the type of case all my guns travel in and that we sell.  No doubt I made the right choice twice...to keep my guns in them and to offer them for sale at CTS.   And No It was NOT me who drove over my own gun!

yojimbo As many of you know, I am a stickler for a sharp knife.  Have I found the solution?...  Well I wanted to remind you of a new business started by Gio who used to be part of our team and has remained a friend to us here at CTS.  In fact Gio continues to return to help out with Customer Appreciation day every year.  Gio has started a Knife sharpening business called Valiant Sharpening Service 208-817-0368.  He sharpened my tactical knife and did an outstanding job.  He has invested in a top of the line European sharpening system.

We are excited to offer anyone an opportunity who needs knife sharpening to drop your knives off at CTS and Gio will pick them up once a week on Friday.  His business is completely separate from CTS and we are trying to help him by providing a drop off and pick up location for his customers.  You will pay Gio directly and all the info is available at our knife counter.  Just stop in with your sharpening needs and ask our staff for assistance.

Please see the below poster.  Center Target Sports and the Post Falls Chamber is honored to sponsor the United States Army Field Band and Chorus on Oct 14th at 3pm. This FREE concert will be held at the Post Falls High School Auditorium.

Please let's be sure to have a standing room only crowd for this amazing performance by our men and woman in uniform.  This will be their only Idaho performance and we need to show them our support and patriotism.  We have tickets at the range or you can go online to print your own.  Please follow the email address on the poster and get your FREE tickets soon. Tickets are limited by the size of the Auditorium, so don't delay.

Enjoy our beautiful fall season!

Consignment Corner

Welcome to the consignment corner.  Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.

We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns.   Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.

All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale.  Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.

Ed will be teaching this seldom offered class.
ar class
If you have ever wanted to learn about the AR weapons system this is the class for you!  In two days of comprehensive in depth assembly and disassembly every part will be removed and explained.

This class will teach you what you need to know about building and or modifying the AR.

On day one you will build the rifle from parts provided to you in a ziplock bag.  That's right... every rifle component will be placed in ziplock bags and you will assemble and function test the rifle.

Over the two day class we will cover assembly/disassembly, function, fit, operation, and troubleshooting just to mention a few topics.  Sign up today as this class is limited in size and will sell out.

Terminal Ballistics - Nov 3 ammo

If we piqued your interest about gunshot trauma in our CCW or defensive classes, you won't want to miss the "how the trauma is caused" class we call Terminal Ballistics. This is the class that will put to rest all the myths of stopping power, knockdown power and dispel much of what we see on TV and in the movies.

This class is based on fact and science as well as testing by men and woman a lot smarter than me. However, I have studied terminal ballistics for over 30 years and have been fortunate enough to surround myself with people who live this terminal ballistic life as a profession. This is a class you will not want to miss.

Home Defense Shotgun - Nov 12

If you incorporate a shotgun in your home defense plan...this is the class for you.  This new format is appropriate for people of all ages and physical abilities. woman shotgun
Topics of instruction include shotgun safety and responsibility, recoil control, marksmanship skill development, shooting positions, target engagements, threat assessment, and shotgun modifications/accessories.

A combination of lecture, demonstrations, and live fire exercises will be used to teach the proper deployment of the shotgun from point blank to distances out to 25 yards.
All instruction materials, range time, and targets are provided by Center Target Sports.

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip

Foreign States and Our Responsibilities

Last week a student called the shop in the presence of a WA State Trooper in the middle of a traffic stop. As I understand it, the student was stopped and during the stop the fact that he was in possession of a concealed firearm came up.  This student was a former Idaho resident but had recently moved to WA.  The trooper was in the process of confiscating his firearm because he had not registered it and she was also questioning his ownership.

The CTS staff was able to speak to the trooper and prove ownership.  But the registering the firearm has us all confused.  I have not been able to find any reference to the requirement of registering a handgun in the state of WA.  Perhaps the trooper was mistaken, or perhaps we have the facts wrong. There is a need for WA residents to have a WA CCW permit and maybe that is what the trooper was talking about.

I am not sure as all this info of the stop came to me second hand.  I am sure however, of our need to know, understand and comply with the laws of the foreign states we visit.  (A foreign state is a state that you are not a resident of.  Below I have listed a few of the more common questions that come up when dealing with WA.

CAN I CARRY IN VEHICLE WITHOUT A PERMIT-  NO
Without a License -   If you do not have a permit then it is illegal to carry a loaded firearm in any vehicle. You can still carry a firearm if it is unloaded and in a closed opaque case or secure wrapper.
With a License   -  you can carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle as long as you have your permit with you at all times.
Law
RCW 9.41.050
RCW 9.41.060

Private Sales
Any private sale of firearms in Washington is required to be completed through a licensed firearms dealer. The dealer must complete a background check on the purchaser and keep a record of the sale. There are some exceptions to the law as follows;
  • Gifts between family members or spouses.
  • Sales of antique guns.
  • Transfers of a firearm to a gunsmith for repairs.
  • Guns acquired by the executors of an estate when the owner dies.
Dealer Sale
A licensed dealer can only sell a handgun if the purchaser has a concealed carry license or undergoes a background check. The dealer is required to not transfer the handgun to the new owner for 10 days or when the results of the background  are obtained, whichever one occurs first. Should the purchaser not have a valid Washington state ID card or drivers license, or has not resided in the state for at least 90 days then the waiting period can be extended to 60 days.

DO I HAVE TO INFORM OFFICER- NO
Washington gun laws require you to have your CCW license on you at all times you are carrying a firearm and display the permit to an officer if requested to do so. You do not have to inform law enforcement you are carrying a firearm.
The Law
RCW 9.41.050 - Carrying firearms

  • State Wildlife Management Areas:     YES- WAC 220.500.140
  • Road Side Rest Areas:     YES
ARE "NO WEAPONS" SIGNS ENFORCED-SEE BELOW
"No Weapons" signs are not mentioned in Washington gun laws. There are no legal penalties for entering a private property or business that has posted these signs. They have no force of law unless they are posted in areas that are mentioned by the law as being off limits. If asked to leave a property and you refuse to do so then you are breaking the law and put yourself at risk of being charged.

CAN I OPEN CARRY WITH OR WITHOUT A PERMIT - YES
Open carry without a permit is legal. However, you will need a CCW license to carry a loaded firearm in any vehicle. Any vehicle means cars, buses, and trains. The minimum age for open carry is 21.
The Law

"Yes" or "No" states if you can carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol. Some restaurants may be posted with "NO GUN" signs. Check with the staff if this means just the bar area. If we have indicated a "Yes" then it should be legal to have a meal without drinking alcohol.
