A Few Thoughts from Ed: ed pic

The holidays are around the corner....Are You Ready?

As we approach this Thanksgiving season I can't help but reflect back on how lucky we have been this year.  Peggy and I along with our entire staff have so much to be thankful for.  A special thanks to all our members and patrons who continue to spread the good word about our facility.  All of our research has clearly shown that most new shooters to CTS are referred to us by your word of mouth.  We can't express enough, our gratitude to all of you for your referrals.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank You!

Since our last newsletter Peggy and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary.  I can't believe how the time flies when you're having fun! "Even with a Red Head"

The winter months are our busiest.     Occasionally there be a short delay to get on the lanes.  We have worked very hard in our scheduling of our classes and in our overall lane use to limit any delays in accessing our lanes.  We have increased our class offerings this winter and the classes are already filling up.  As always you can repeat any class completed forever for free.

Dodge PU windshield test
We just completed another terminal ballistics class and I believe everyone had a great time.  To the left is a windshield we shot testing for penetration and deflection.  If you have any interest in how bullets cause trauma don't miss this class the next time it is offered.

I would like to thank my entire staff of instructors.  Everyone knows what a great job these dedicated instructors do here at CTS.  It is because of their passion, expertise and commitment to providing the best possible training available anywhere in the Northwest that I can travel and teach Nationally and Internationally.  I love teaching here at CTS and cherish my time home and teaching in Post Falls.

Look for us to be using our Simunition guns in our training classes.  The UTM guns we use are awesome.  The training we accomplish with the force on force scenarios offers a huge learning experience for everyone.  It is amazing to see all the things we discuss in class play out under the stress of quality, well planned, force on force scenario training.  Look for many more force on force training opportunities in the future.

Gearing up for our busy season we have added three new employees.  We are excited to have them as part of our CTS family.  Please take the time to introduce yourself and make them feel welcome the next time you are in the facility.

Last month I asked for any extra gun locks that you could donate to us.  WOW, Thank you to everyone that brought in locks.  This will allow us to sell a used gun without having to add the price of a lock.  As you know it is the law that all firearms leave the building with a lock.  Thanks for stepping up and filling our lock box.

Enjoy our beautiful fall season!

Be Safe...ed

Consignment Corner

Welcome to the consignment corner.  Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.

We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns.   Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.

All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale.  Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.

Trigger Jobs
How do you like the trigger on your favorite firearm?  Is it gritty?  Jumpy?  Sloppy?  Does it have a clean break, or does it seem to take a mile of pressing to make the gun go off?  Most firearms can be tuned to have a smoother, lighter, and more consistent trigger pull.  Let our professional gunsmith go over your trigger, starting at $75 for labor.  Better trigger translates to better accuracy.  If you are a competition shooter, you know that means better scores.  If you are learning, that inconsistent trigger makes it hard to diagnose your errors so you can improve.  Don't let your guns mediocre trigger get you down, make it better at Center Target Sports!

So you've got your brand new semi-auto firearm.  You know its new, you know its sturdy, but is it reliable, accurate, and comfortable to use?  Can the trigger be smoother?  Can the sights be brighter and easier to pick up?  Yes, they can!  Our Reliability Package addresses all these concerns.  Come in to Center Target Sports and see Adam for more specific details on the magic he can perform on your firearm!

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip

Tips for preventing burglars from picking your home!

Today communities across America look for ways to more effectively fight crime. Burglary is on the rise everywhere. Let's focus our attention this month, on residential burglaries. Who are the burglars, how do they pick their targets, how do they plan and execute the crime. Are we helpless? No we are not.

burglar Most residential burglars are young, male and in need of quick cash. They regard the money they steal or the fruits of their labor as an immediate solution to all their problems. To many, burglary is a matter of day-to-day survival.

A small percentage of burglaries are actually "opportunities too good to pass up" the garage door left open or the unattended car left running.   It has been said that over 50% of all burglaries are committed by people who need money for drugs.

Why burglary versus armed robbery or mugging? A well planned and executed burglary has a limited amount of danger but, offers a very high probability of success with very low risk of confrontation or capture. An experienced burglar will never meet his victims during the crime. If caught later by the police, there usually are no eyewitnesses who can make a positive identification.

Contrary to popular belief, potential targets for burglary are becoming fairly limited. As stated earlier, most burglars are driven by the need for fast cash. However they must balance this need for speed with caution. About 90% of the time burglars have selected a residence before setting out to commit the crime.

Most burglars are unwilling to break into a residence without knowing something about the people and the valuables it may contain. Picking a potential target requires reliable information that is most often obtained by; knowing the occupants, by getting a tip from a mutual acquaintance, or by observation.

We must understand our home might be burglarized by someone we know. In fact more than one in five burglaries are committed by known offenders even if they were only casual acquaintances.

Paid tipsters are another source of information to the burglar. They often include repairmen, cable/satellite or telephone installers, and delivery men. Homes are chosen through observation because, judging from the exterior, they appear to have cash, and other valuables worth stealing. Visual cues such as the size of the house, manicured landscape, and expensive cars all give the perception of money.

Understanding who, why and the how elements of the crime, provides us insight into prevention. What can we do? Well, be careful who you let in your home. Accept deliveries at the front door.   Limit the access of any service workers to your home. On trash day, cut up boxes that indicate new purchases of expensive items. Keep circumstances of your travel or vacation plans on a need to know basis. Don't flaunt your wealth. Don't give your home address or phone number to strangers.

Don't make yourself an easy or tempting target. Your home is your castle - protect it.
