Swan Point Residents on Vacuum System

Advised to Limit Use of Sewer System

The Charles County Department of Public Works advises residents of Swan Point who are on a vacuum sewer system to limit their use of the sewer system.  Specifically, residents are asked to limit activities that cause water to go down the drain such as washing clothes, flushing toilets and taking showers.

There are no restrictions on drinking water, as water quality is not affected by the issues with the vacuum sewer system.

Department of Public Works staff will be on site during daylight hours on Tuesday, Oct. 30 to repair the vacuum sewer system.

Swan Point residents who experience any problems, or have questions about whether they are on a vacuum sewer system, may call 301-609-7400 and leave a message on the Department of Public Works, Utilities answering service.

A non-emergency telephone number, 301-609-3435, has been established for citizens to call with any questions regarding Hurricane Sandy.  This number is not to be used in the event of an emergency.  If you have an emergency situation, call 9-1-1.

Severe weather and emergency notices will be posted on the Charles County website (www.CharlesCountyMD.gov), on the county's Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/CharlesCounty), and on the county's government cable station, CCGTV, broadcast on Verizon channel 10 and Comcast channel 95.

Register today for Charles County's Citizen Notification Service (CNS) to receive inclement weather and traffic alerts by e-mail or on your cell phone or pager. To sign up for the free CNS service, visit www.CharlesCountyCNS.com
