EdVantages - Professional Development and Personal Enrichment
A Word from Sue...

Thank you for supporting VSU Continuing Education. We are closing out a year of many successes which I am happy to share with you.

Adhering to our ongoing goal of providing resources for professional development for the local community, in 2013 we provided Food Safety Manager Certification classes and Exam sessions. These classes allow our many fine area restaurants and other food service establishments to earn or renew their required ServSafe certification.

The Court Reporters' Workshops attracted reporters from around the state and north Florida, too. Grant Writing - The Rest of the Story gave attendees valuable insights into the process of researching, identifying, and successfully connecting with funders and basic tools for successfully writing a grant proposal.

In 2013, our students enjoyed themselves as they discovered how to paint in oils, explored their natural rhythms in African dance, educated their wine-tasting palates, created beautiful beaded jewelry, planned a more solid financial future, and learned to sell on eBay.

And for the first time in 7 years, we offered summer classes for adults which included two favorites, The Joy of Singing and Fundamentals of Digital Photography.

Planning for spring is underway and the spring 2014 EdVantages catalog is being prepared.

EdVantages - Spring 2014

As always, offering course opportunities to enhance your Professional Development and Personal Enrichment will continue to be our goal in 2014.

We will be bringing back some favorite classes such as:

As you have come to expect, we will continue with our tradition of offering quality training to our regional court reporters. Along the way some exciting classes will be added to help broaden your personal and professional and horizons.

Learning in Retirement
LIR Winter Registration
begins December 10

Thanks to everyone who helped to make the fall term of LIR a success!

Winter term LIR classes begin on January 13, 2014 with registration beginning on December 10. Look for the class schedule in your mailbox Thanksgiving week.

The curriculum committee is still finalizing course offerings as of this writing, but we know that many perennial favorites will return including: Yoga, Zumba Gold, Views of the News and also our painting classes and book reviews.

Look for some new and exciting tours to include Ray Charles Plaza and the Thronateeska Heritage Center in Albany, the Knott House Museum in Tallahassee, and a quail (statue) hunting expedition in downtown Thomasville.

Remember that anyone 50 or above can join LIR, Suzanne so help spread the word about this great opportunity for fun and followship!

Where Does All My Money Go?

It's hard to believe that the extended holiday season is upon us again. And, for many of us, it's a time to figure out how to find extra money for all the opportunities that come along to relieve us or our hard earned income. It's also a time to examine our spending and saving habits and figure out if we've done a good job of planning over the past year.

There are many tools available to help get you on track with your personal finances. Online courses are an easy way to start the process of discovery and study at convenient times and in the privacy of your home.

Keys to Successful Money Management ($99) is one of several online course choices offered through VSU Continuing Education to help you get on track with your personal finances.

Other 6-week instructor-facilitated selections include Personal Finance ($99) to help you clearly identify your financial goals and Where Does all my Money Go? ($99) - the basics of how to get control of your finances.

Instructor-paced courses begin on a Wednesday in each month.
