EXPRESS SUPPORT FOR INCLUSIVITY IN THE UMC!
To help St. Mark's become a more fully welcoming congregation, members of the Church & Society/Missions Committee are inviting individuals to join the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN). This is a national movement of United Methodists dedicated simply to welcoming church members (and attenders) of all sexual orientations and gender identities into the full expression of Christ's inclusive love.

The Reconciling Ministries Network consists of over 700 communities throughout the U.S., including one adult class at St. Mark's, and 34,000 individual members, including our pastors and others in our congregation. We invite everyone to join this movement working for inclusion of all God's children in the United Methodist Church. Individual members will be kept informed of the RMN's work. There is no fee and names are not publicly listed.

Individuals can affiliate with the Reconciling Ministries Network by clicking on this link on their website ( http://www.rmnetwork.org/newrmn/take-action/pledge-to-be-a-reconciling-individual/ ), or by coming to the table in Garton Hall after worship this Sunday. Individuals will be there to share information and answer questions.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
"PILGRIMS," 9:15am
The Pilgrims meet at 9:15am in Room 13. Come join us for the video lecture and resulting discussion. All are welcome to attend!

Lecture 21: "Genesis 38-The Story of Judah and Tamar"

Genesis 38 relates the story of one of Joseph's brothers, Judah, and his daughter-in-law, Tamar. Tamar disguises herself as a prostitute, representative of the lowly and marginal in society, yet it is she, and not powerful Judah, who gains the upper hand, as she teaches both Judah and the ancient Israelite readers the moral lesson.

  ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
"NOMADS," 9:15am
This Sunday, May 29th, in Room 10, the Nomads will complete their discussion of the Jesus parables from Amy-Jill Levine's Short Stories by Jesus. On Sunday, June 5th, the Nomads Sunday class will begin discussion of Anne Lamott's 2013 book, Stitches: A Handbook on Meaning, Hope and Repair.

Stitches formed the basis for discussions and reflections at the St. Mark's women's retreat in 2015, led by Mary Ann Moman, and we look forward to additional stimulating discussions on this theme on Sunday mornings. All are welcome to join us, even without reading the book!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
"BIBLE BANTER," 9:30am
The Bible Banter Adult Sunday School class meets in Room 11 each Sunday morning from 9:30am-10:15am. The class uses the Scripture text for the morning's sermon as a discussion-starter.

We look at the passage in its larger context, and sometimes explore a bit of Bible-writing history. We offer some thoughts on what the morning's sermon might look like, based on the Scripture the pastor has selected. We leave time to discuss implications of the Scripture for our own lives, and often even delve into topics far afield of the morning's original topic. You are invited to bring some breakfast goodies into Room 11 and join the conversation.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL WORSHIP
FOR ALL AGES
We will be wrapping up our Vacation Bible School week with a great, family friendly, intergenerational worship service. Families and friends, of all faith and spiritual traditions, are warmly welcomed. The VBS theme is Godspell, which is based on the Gospel of Matthew. A few scenes and songs will be woven into the service. There will be prayers written by the children, pictures from the week and Mary Beth Morgan will share brief reflections on selected Gospel passages. If children came to VBS week or not, we will invite all present to participate (as they wish), and join in with our all-sings. We want everyone to feel welcome, included and a part of this worship celebration.

If your child(ren) or youth would like to be a part of worship leadership: draw the bulletin cover, help lead a prayer, greet people, light candles, help bring up the offering etc., please contact Mary Beth Morgan ( [email protected] or 812-332-5788).
ALL-CHURCH EMAIL AND BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS:
CHANGES IN COMMUNICATIONS HAVE BEGUN
EVENT INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
In an effort to be better stewards of our resources, we designed a new monthly document, "UPCOMING AT ST. MARK'S" which is separate from the bulletin, and includes the announcements and information from ministry areas, committees, and groups. This approach will  greatly reduce the number of printed pages in the bulletin each week. It will also necessitate that all of us plan ahead. Please note the following submission deadlines for "UPCOMING AT ST. MARK'S".
Articles for July need to be submitted by Monday, June 20.
Articles for August need to be submitted by Monday, July 25.
You may submit articles by e-mail to [email protected] , by bringing/sending them to the church office, or by reaching us by phone (812-332-5788).
GET YOUR COPY OF "UPCOMING AT ST. MARK'S"

The monthly "UPCOMING AT ST. MARK'S" will be available in the sanctuary each Sunday, at the Welcome Desk throughout the week, electronically at link below, and mailed to those who request them. Please contact the church office, or Mary Beth Morgan, with any questions. Thank you for your efforts, as we partner together in seeking to be better stewards of our resources.
