CLASS ON UMC GENERAL CONFERENCE 2016 & LANGUAGE IN CHURCH LAW REGARDING SEXUAL ORIENTATION
Mary Beth Morgan will facilitate this conversation in Room 10. General Conference, meeting this year from May 10th-20th, is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church which meets once every four years. The conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. Language in church law regarding sexual orientation will again be vigorously debated by (both lay and clergy) delegates committed to overturning the current language, those who want to maintain what now exists, and others who support compromise proposals. Please join us for this conversation.

GET YOUR CHURCH DIRECTORY BOOK

Our new church directories with photos and contact information for people of St. Mark's have arrived, and now you can have a copy at your home. This Sunday, May 8th is the final day to pick up your directory in Garton Hall before and after Worship. Directories will continue to be available in the church office while supplies last. There is no charge for the directory.

Volunteers will hand out the directories in Garton Hall this Sunday from 9:45am-10:15am and 11:30am-12:00pm. Those whose picture is included in the directory or who are included in the roster section have a directory reserved for them. We have additional directories for those who may not have been able to be part of the directory project. We are also taking names and information of people who may wish to be added to the next directory update.

If you will be unable to pick up your directory at church on these days, please contact the church office and arrange to receive your directory.

ST. MARK'S TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY
Every day is teacher appreciation day! Join us on Sunday, May 15th as we recognize our Sunday School, Nursery School and Kindergarten teachers in Garton Hall from 9:30am to 10:15am. Enjoy breakfast and express your gratitude to our loyal and caring teachers. Teachers will also receive a blessing during the 10:30am worship service. All volunteer or paid teachers in the Sunday Morning Nursery, Children's or Youth Sunday School, or St. Mark's Nursery School and Kindergarten are welcome to participate in our special day of recognition and appreciation.

Parents and families, we need your help! If you are able to contribute a breakfast item for the breakfast in Garton Hall, then please contact Bridget McIntyre with what you can bring or sign up to bring food here. Or, please volunteer if you are able to be a substitute teacher that morning so our regularly-scheduled teachers may receive their blessing early in the worship service before returning to the classrooms. Thank you!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
"BIBLE BANTER," 9:30am
The Bible Banter Adult Sunday School class meets in Room 11 each Sunday morning from 9:30am-10:15am. The class uses the Scripture text for the morning's sermon as a discussion-starter.

We look at the passage in its larger context, and sometimes explore a bit of Bible-writing history. We offer some thoughts on what the morning's sermon might look like, based on the Scripture the pastor has selected. We leave time to discuss implications of the Scripture for our own lives, and often even delve into topics far afield of the morning's original topic. You are invited to bring some breakfast goodies into Room 11 and join the conversation.
