"Neighborhoods Day is raising the spirit of Detroit and bringing people together. It is showing that the community is coming back."-Herman Johnson, Monica Davison Block Club.

That's a sentiment that was shared all over the city on Aug. 5, for the 11th annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day, with more than 200 participating and organizations involving thousands of people.
With the help of volunteers from Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Monica Davison Block Club on the city's west side was able to make a huge dent in the debris and blight in its neighborhood.

"Neighborhoods Day is fantastic," Johnson said. "It is having a tremendous impact in beautifying our neighborhoods."
Blue Cross made a major commitment by adopting 15 schools and five other projects for beautification efforts, involving more than 200 volunteers.
Experiencing her first Neighborhoods Day, ARISE Detroit! Operations Officer Crystal Staffney quickly realized that there was no way should get to the 36 events she identified and settled for about 10. She was overwhelmed by what she saw.

"There were amazing events taking place all over the city and as I headed from one event to the next, I passed by Neighborhoods Day barbecues, clean-up projects and sometimes just signage which indicated that an event was taking place in the area or getting ready to start," she said. "My experience was nothing less than remarkable. Each event that I attended brought something different to the community and makes me very proud to say I am a representative of ARISE Detroit! and even more proud to say that I was born, raised and still live in the city of Detroit!"

To all who made this amazing day a huge success for the city, the ARISE Detroit! family, including our board of directors, says THANK YOU!
