Greetings!
Thank you to all who joined A Mother's Love: Good Counsel Malta House's 20th Anniversary Spring Gala on Saturday, May 12. We welcomed nearly 300 guests to the beautiful Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, CT, and raised almost $300,000 to go toward our mission of providing "hope for life" for homeless, pregnant and parenting mothers and their babies.
Mary Beth Fessler presented the John Swanhaus Award to the five original founders of Malta House: Chris Bell, Hope Carter, Father Gerald Devore, Michael O'Rourke and Monsignor William Scheyd. Said Kim Petrone, Chairman of the Board, "Without their dedication, prayers, talent and fortitude, we would not have been able to provide a home to the over 300 babies who have been born into our loving care since we opened our doors in 1998."
In addition to sponsorships and ticket sales, there was a silent and live auction, the raffle of a stunning amethyst and diamond necklace donated by Manfredi Jewels, as well a "Gifts of Love" paddle raise.
The highlight of the evening was the speech by an alumna of Malta House, who described the many ways she was helped by our services eleven years ago. "I had no where to go, but found out about Good Counsel Malta House, and I knew everything was going to be ok. I learned how to speak English, how to drive, and how to budget. I was able to save enough money to give my village in Tanzania clean water. I recently received U.S. citizenship, and have been promoted at my job at Marriott Hotels. My son and I are the product of Malta House, and we are so grateful."
