On Saturday, November 7th, more than 200 Oakland County youth, community leaders, legislators, law enforcement officials, mental health experts, and advocates came together at the Emagine Theater in Royal Oak for Youth Voices & Advocacy 2015. Teens participated in dialog about topics they said were most important to them - social pressures, mental health, and discrimination - and learned from experts how to effectively advocate for change within their own communities.
This event was co-sponsored by the ACHC and Royal Oak Community Coalition.
Legislator Luncheon: Lessons Learned from Commercialized Marijuana in Colorado
On the heels of the Ohio marijuana legalization defeat, Michigan lawmakers attended an important discussion on marijuana in the State of Michigan. Special guest
Ben Cort, of Project SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana), presented lessons learned from Colorado's marijuana legislation. The event was held at WMU - Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills and was attended by lawmakers representing both sides of the issue.
The Troy Community Coalition held its 20th annual Celebrity Night Dinner at the San Marino Club in Troy. Guests enjoyed a Detroit Red Wings themed evening which included special guest speaker Dr. Murray Howe and a special appearance by Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe.

There are a number of things that you might find in a teenager's bedroom that could be signs of drug or alcohol abuse. In October, the Troy Community Coalition assembled a mock bedroom to show parents what common household items to look for in their child's bedroom that could be used to get high and as drug paraphernalia.
