Huron Valley Community Coalition Working on Drug-Free Communities Grant
The Huron Valley Community Coalition has a new director, Randy Root, and new energy aimed at empowering local kids to make positive choices and avoid substance abuse. Root was hired late last year to lead the organization's efforts focused on reduction and prevention of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs.
Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition Showcases Talented Teens
Last month, the coalition hosted its first-ever Teen Talent Palooza with singers, local teen bands, an athletic challenge, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction at Bloomfield Hills High School. The major fundraiser doubled as a substance-free night out for students, and garnered some extra cash to help the coalition along.
Tri-Community Coalition and North Oakland Community Coalition staff members and student volunteers attended the CADCA National Forum in Washington, D.C. this week. The group visited Capital Hill and met with Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence and her staff to advocate for increased coalition support.
Marijuana: Lessons Learned from Colorado
Captain Dave Kelly of the Michigan State Police presented on marijuana at the Troy Community Coalition's general membership meeting in January.
2016 Oakland County Drug Facts Week Art Competition
Tri-Community Coalition is sponsored an art fair competition to raise awareness about substance abuse prevention and addiction during National Drug Facts Week in 2016. Congratulations to Vanessa Kaufman, a 10th grader at South Lyon High School, for winning First Place in the competition!
