Helping and Housing Fairfax Homeless, One Family at a Time

We couldn't wait to share this --

At the end of September, three Family PASS clients exited our program. All three were able to enhance their education and skills, thanks to assistance from Family PASS, county and community resources, and have now gone from homelessness or near homelessness to success and self-sufficiency. These are clients who relied on our food pantry, the Closet, Friends in Deed, SHARE computers and desks, tutorin g and Vehicles for Change while they struggled to regain their lives.

Two of the clients have been hired at jobs paying $65,000 a year plus full benefits. The third client is receiving over $70,000 annually. Although there is no time limit to our programs, case managers try to attain client success within three-years. Now, our senior case manager reports, more of our clients are voluntarily exiting the Family PASS program before that three-year period is reached.

Everyone in the community should take pride in these achievements because the little things each of our supporters does, whether it's donating backpacks, or driving a client to an interview, add up to success.

Thank you!

thirsty community at the Vienna Business Association's Oktoberfest Beer tent. The morning was, expectedly, slow but once the afternoon crowd arrived, our volunteers were filling 8 pitchers on average every 4 minutes to keep up with demand from 2-7 PM! The results were worth it - we raised just under $1400 in tips from the grateful customers.

First Annual Family PASS Golf Tournament Raises
Over $20,000 for the Challenge Grant!

44 Golfers turned out on a beautiful Thursday at Westfield's Golf Club in Clifton for the first annual FP Golf Tournament. The tournament, organized by FP Vice President Mike Waddell and his posse of Integrity One Partners Golf Committee volunteers, raised just over $20,000 to put us near the three-quarter mark for the first year of our Challenge Grant.
    And they're off!

The Silent Auction items were amazing, with a mansion in Costa Rica, a six-bedroom beach house in the Outer Banks, and a beautiful western-style home in the Grand Tetons topping an impressive list of donated items.

Happenings in the Office

George Mason University Intern at Family PASS
This summer, we welcomed Kathryn Hall, a first year student in the Masters in Social Work program at George Mason University. Kathryn graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Government. She interns at Family PASS under the supervision of Senior Case Manager Sou Han and works alongside case manager Jessica Sweeney. Kathryn is in the office Tuesdays and Thursday and will be a part of the Family PASS team through her spring semester.

Volunteer Kathe King Joins Family PASS as Housing Locator Consultant

Kathe King, a realtor with Weichert Realtors, has signed on as a housing locator  consultant with Family PASS, relieving the time-consuming role of housing location from Family PASS case managers. The primary role of case managers is to help clients by guiding them to the services needed to achieve self-sufficiency. Housing location is a critical first step in stabilizing a family.

Kathe has served in a volunteer capacity at Family PASS for many years, as an occasional housing locator, a volunteer at the holiday client party, the summer picnic and as a volunteer for specific client needs. Now that role as housing locator has been formalized and we are thrilled Kathe has agreed to serve in that capacity.                                                                                    Kathe King

Welcome aboard Kathryn and Kathe!
Remember, Family PASS's Friends in Deed volunteer group is looking for people who would like to help out with our clients' occasional special needs. If you are interested in learning more, our FAQ is located here.  To sign up, send an email to friendsindeed@familypassfairfax.org.
