This week, I had the pleasure to interview Kyle & Marc - the founders/co-owners of Osborne Village's new Burger Joint Unburger.

Good news everyone, they make delicious and heallthy burgers, they buy local and they are just really great guys!

ITM: Tell us about how your business came about?

UB: We wanted a place to go to where we could eat tasty burgers and not feel guilty about it, and there was none, so we opened our own healthy gourmet burger restaurant.

ITM: You put a great emphasis on recycling and local meats in your restaurant.  Where did these passions come about and what made you chose to create a business built on this?

UB: We never considered doing it any other way. We've always felt that restaurants should recycle, considering the amount of boxes, plastic jugs etc. that they go through. As for going local, why not?! You can't get fresher and we're supporting local farmers, win win!

ITM:  Where do you hope to see your business in 2 years from now?  What are your hopes?

UB: We hope to see our business as a staple restaurant in Osborne Village, a place that is well known for having friendly staff, high standards of cleanliness and the tastiest burgers in town!

ITM: One of the things that I loved when I came in, was the personal involvement of the both of you from the production of the food, to being available on the floor for questions etc.  Is this a conscious decision on both of your parts?  (It's a great thing, really - a huge selling point to my looking forward to coming back)

UB: To be honest, we care about our restaurant so much that the customer involvement we give just comes naturally. We want each customer to get a meal that suits their taste and to enjoy their experience. We love to hear feedback both positive and negative so that we can keep improving our young restaurant concept.

ITM: B/C of the fact that this is a newsletter for a record shop, can you name me your 5 favourite musicians? (and please don't say Nikkelback!)  ;)

UB:         Marc: Neil Young, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tracey Chapman, Elton John, Xavier Rudd

Kyle: Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Empire of the Sun, Calvin Harris, Broken Bells

ITM:  Anything else you'd like our readership to know about Unburger?

UB: We're just 2 guys from Winnipeg who want to serve good food while being environmentally friendly

 <3 Osborne Village! <3 Winnipeg!

Hi Everyone.

How did I miss Memphix? As often as I find myself lamenting other people's lack of enthusiasm surrounding overlooked corners of creative musical output, I too have slept. A deep sleep in this case. I blame an aversion to the (often rightfully) maligned subgenre of Trip Hop, as well as the insane flood of independent Hip Hop/New Funk/DJ-Edit releases that helped define the early part of the last decade, for dulling my appreciation for instrumental sample based sounds at the time of the label's key output. I'll always take a 45 King Lost Breakbeats over a DJ Shadow Endtroducing but have never denied the many merits of either. Hey, sometimes you want whiskey and sometimes you want coffee.

These days it's a cup of tea more than either of the above, and maybe that has lead me back to sounds like Express Rising and Amicabilities (let alone wishing I had even heard Red & The Eyerights). Although I have scoured the shop for any trace of these records (still looking), it has led me to revisit and reevaluate a sound I had previously ignored. Until a stack of records straight out of Big Daddy Magazine's old mail order list shows up in New Arrivals, I'm finding some serious listening value in this Curse of the Evil Badger LP.
