In The Footsteps of Heschel --
USY and JTS were proud to partner in a daytime event on Sunday, January 29, called "In the Footsteps of Heschel." This event, co-sponsored by the List College and Rabbinical School Admissions offices, was dedicated to the values and ideas of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and the tenets of the USY Heschel Honor Society of Torah, Avodah and G'milut Chassadim. USYers learned about the life and teachings of Heschel, where he taught them. Highlights of the day included: Torah: Introduction to the life and values of AJ Heschel taught by Rabbinical School Dean, Rabbi Danny Nevins, Heschel ideas through a "Speed dating" format, led by JTS Rabbinical School Students/ USY Alum, A brief historical tour of the Seminary and Heschel's role in shaping Conservative Jewish Theology; Avodah: Participants prayed Minha together at Columbia Hillel; G'millut Hassadim: Participants joined the JTS Va'ad G'millut Hassadim (Social Action Committee) in their Midnight Run Project by assembling the personal hygiene packages which will distributed to the homeless community of Morningside Heights in New York City. USYers were joined by a number of students from Prozdor, the JTS Hebrew High School. Approximately 45 students participated in what we hope will become an annual event. It was a wonderful day of learning and fun.
