Holiday Spirit Inspires Us All!

Holiday Baskets23 The holiday season is an inspiring (and busy!) time at Community Servings. During the fall and winter months, we deliver special Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to our sick clients and their families, we coordinate the Holiday Gift Basket program which provides gifts for our clients and their children, and we produce Pie in the Sky - our Thanksgiving pie sale. All of this on top of our regular programs, including preparing almost 2,000 meals each day!

We are so grateful to have hundreds of wonderful volunteers who generously lend a hand every holiday season. This year, consider starting a holiday tradition of your own by helping us touch the lives of individuals and families living with a critical illness.

Make a Holiday Donation In-Honor / In-Memory

A contribution to Community Servings in honor or in memory of a friend, family member or loved one is a meaningful holiday gift, especially for the person on your list who has everything! What's more, our elegant gift card makes a beautiful presentation. The minimum donation is $28, which provides one week's worth of meals to a Community Servings client. To purchase cards, please visit: http://servings.org/donate/honor.cfm

Serving 1,525 Neighbors

like Cherry Ann and her family

There are 1,525 individuals a year that rely on Community Servings to deliver nutritious meals over 215 square miles throughout Massachusetts. Many of these individuals are like Cherry Ann, a critically-ill, single mother of three. Cherry Ann lived for eight years with HIV, without knowing it.

Physically sick and financially strapped, and suffering from undiagnosed HIV, Cherry was becoming sicker with time. This severely impacted her ability to take care of herself and her family.

"It reached the point where I couldn't even get up and go to the bathroom anymore. When I was finally diagnosed with HIV, I had extremely high viral loads and a CD4 count of 23. I am lucky to be alive."

Although Cherry Ann was able to take the appropriate medication to begin controlling the disease, she still didn't have control over other aspects of her life, such as being able to afford food for her three children.

"Before the meals, I didn't have a way to make ends meet. I was so focused on my kids getting everything that they needed, that I wasn't taking care of myself. Community Servings is a blessing in disguise."

Because of the generous support of compassionate individuals like you, it's possible for Community Servings to provide over twenty special dietary menus for our very sick neighbors, many of whom have nowhere else to turn for their daily meal.

To hear more stories like Cherry Ann's, watch our new video "Voices of Hunger and Critical Illness" in which we present the stories of several of our critically-ill clients.

Nutrition Tips

Frozen fruits and vegetables get a bad rap and with the winter months approaching, access to nutritious produce can be limited. This article explains why a frozen produce alternative is not only convenient but can be more healthful than fresh fruits and vegetables.
