Here at Peace United, we spent this morning's worship service talking about Sabbath: the ancient spiritual practice of setting aside one whole day each week to rest, to reconnect with each other and with God, and to deeply receive all the gifts of this life.
Sometimes, it's hard to imagine coming to a complete stop for even an hour, let alone an entire day! But our ancestors understood that our constant activity does violence to our own souls and to the world around us, and that to find peace, we must help one another learn to rest.
I hope you and your family are finding time this season to rest, renew, and rejoice in all of summer's brightest blessings. And I hope that when you're in town, you'll join us for the special family activities we have planned in the weeks ahead. In particular, I think you won't want to miss our trip to
Swanton Berry Farms right after worship on Sunday, August 16th (please note the change of date) and our annual

And, don't forget: Registration is open for our
All-Church Retreat, September 19th-20th at Camp Monte Toyon! This is a wonderful opportunity to rest and renew with friends of all ages from Peace United. You can find more information, and registration forms

Our junior youth group is on summer break, but we'll be starting again on Sunday, September 6th, and youth ages 11 to 14 are invited to join us! Please note that this year, youth group will be meeting on the first and third Sunday of each month, at 9:00 a.m., in the Youth Room! Mark your calendar and plan to join us for a very special retreat in the beautiful redwoods of Monte Toyon Camp and Conference Center!
We'll have activities for kids and adults, three shared meals in the camp dining hall, campfires, songs, and lots of time for rest, renewal, and connecting with friends. We have room for just 50 people this year, so

Bring your favorite animal (real, stuffed, or in a
photograph!) to receive a blessing, and to give thanks
for all the joy our animals bring us all year long!
Sunday, September 27 All-Church Barbecue and Sunday-School Kickoff
Join us for worship at 10:30 followed by a barbecue
lunch for everyone. We'll have games, a bounce house,
great food--and lots of time to visit with friends new and
old as we all return from our summer adventures!
