Thresholds
In the novel "The Color Purple," Alice Walker writes: "I think us here to wonder, myself. To wonder. To ask. And that in wondering bout the big things and asking bout the big things, you learn about the little ones, almost by accident. But you never know nothing more about the big things than you start out with. The more I wonder, the more I love." This Sunday, we celebrate wondering and asking about the big things. We celebrate the wonderings of our Coming of Age youth and our New Members. We celebrate those threshold moments for us all, when you fall more deeply in love with the world, with yourself, and with the unnameable mystery.

Religious Education Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast
Seeking breakfast helpers!
Sunday, May 31
As the church year draws to a close, we honor the many volunteers who ministered to our children and youth, generously sharing their time and attention through the year. If you were not in the classrooms this year and can help with the Appreciation Breakfast, please sign up online. Helpers are needed to bring food, set up, serve or clean up.
Religious Education Volunteers received an invitation to this special event by email this week. If you volunteered in Religious Education classes but didn't receive your invite, please email Lauren so we can get one to you and express our gratitude.

Summer Sundays at First Universalist
Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day
On Summer Sundays we have a single worship service at 10am, and childcare and Religious Education classes are offered from 10-11am for children ages 6 months up through those entering 6th grade in the Fall. Learn more about our planned activities for each age group online.
Adult staff and trained youth from the congregation provide care and guidance as we enjoy a more relaxed pace and focus on building community with one another. No need to register for summer in advance. Simply fill out a brief form the first Sunday you attend and we'll keep it on hand all Summer.

The House That Love Built
A perfect opportunity for families who participated in the campaign last year!
Did your family help build the Habitat for Humanity House our congregation sponsored? Did you cut your holiday spending last year and donate the difference? Did your child collect coins, or your youth decorate cookies for a fundraiser in their RE class? Perhaps you and your family would like to see the house, and work alongside the homeowners and other volunteers on simple landscaping projects for a day.
The work is appropriate for all ages. Younger kids must attend with a parent. Teens are welcome to come on their own with parent permission. We'll be carpooling from church, leaving around 9am, or families can meet at the site at 9:30am. Bring your gloves -- Habitat will provide all the other supplies and 1st U volunteers will provide lunch. We'll work through mid- to late-afternoon, or until the job is done.
