FR. DEMETRI'S MESSAGE

Family and Friends of St. Nicholas,

Once again, we have come to the close of Summer. For many, it seems the Summer days go by way too fast and for a few others, these days simply signify another season just around the corner… football season!

Actually, during the month of September as many are settling back into their schools and jobs following vacation, we know this is a time for people to look to the church once again for inspiration and fellowship.

We hear from St. Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews 10:25 “not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all of the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Here at St. Nicholas, we want to be a welcoming parish so that when people are looking for a church to attend, their search stops right here! While we would love to see our church grow, this is far from being the only reason to be a welcoming church. We live in a day and age that people need to hear the truth of the Word of God and be able to worship…just like the faithful did in the early centuries!

You can feel confident as you invite your friends and family to our upcoming festival, in which they will enjoy great food, fellowship and hospitality, but more importantly, that they will indeed hear the Good News spoken with conviction and clarity.

So I ask you to please take a few moments to consider a list of about 5-10 people to invite AFTER the festival, to witness firsthand our parish family in its greatest form…Sunday worship.

Looking forward to a Great New Ecclesiastical Year with all of you!!!

God bless,
PC PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Although we often associate spring with a new beginning, fall can also be a new beginning.

Our children are returning to schools and colleges. The Church year and church school are also starting. It can be a good time for all of us to try something new.

The most obvious thing we can try is participating in the festival. Our parish needs our help with this huge undertaking. Maybe we can all think of a new way to help our church with the festival. You can volunteer your time and talents in a number of ways. Our financial support is also always welcome. We can invite some new friends, relatives, co-workers, Facebook friends, classmates to our festival. Watch for signups or speak to a festival committee person.

Perhaps it is time for your child to start Greek school. Our teachers work very hard to offer a great Greek school program. Our schools meets on Saturdays.

Church school is also entering a new year. Talk to a church school teacher or Amantha Tsaros (our director) about how you can help.  Assistant teachers, substitute teachers, and parent helpers are always needed.

All of our ministries can use extra help. GOYA, Orthodoxy in Action, Philoptochos, Stewardship are all great ways to give to our church. You could even decide to run for the Parish Council.

May we all get off to a great new church year and have a wonderful festival.

PHILOPTOCHOS

Philoptochos meeting is coming up on Monday, September 10th (6:30-8pm).  Our VP, Alexa Vafiades will be leading this meeting (as I'm due to deliver on the 9th). Please plan to attend as there will be important discussion regarding festival logistics and a short debrief of what Alexa learned when she attended the convention in Boston as our chapter's representative.

We need your help with the Festival Pastry Booth!!  I'm sad to say that we have not had too many people sign up to help with the Philoptochos Pastry Table yet. There are 2 sign-up sheets posted on the bulletin board that would love to have your name on it:
1. Pastry Donations: We can't sell from an "empty basket" so if you're able to make any dessert (other than baklava as we have a workshop for that) or support with donations so we can purchase the pastries.
2. Work Schedule: Please sign up so we know your availability on when you can come help/ relieve others so they can take a break during the festival.

Baklava Workshop: Monday, September 17 at 9am!  Please contact Cleo Rizos if you are able to come to assist in making this delicious dessert!  decarizfam@gmail.com

God Bless,
