Knitters who weave!                                                                Photo by Brenda Fayard

Dear Friends of A Novel Experience,

Good-bye, Elly! One of our own is leaving this week to teach English to students in China. China...Zebulon....China...Zebulon--what a choice! We are all in denial that she is going but we share her excitement about the adventure. Thanks, Elly for gifting us with your effervescent spirit and gracious wit. We wish you and Jonathan the best.

June ushers in the season where it is possible to take some time to read books that have nothing whatsoever to do with work or school. To honor this, we always set out our famous pool of used books that are perfect for the beach, poolside, eating ice cream, or lazing under the shade of a century tree just before dusk (when the mosquitoes come out to dine). With a used book you don't have to worry about  ruining a pristine new one. You can be irreverent, careless, and relaxed--bend the spine the better to see, toss it aside in the sand, let the baby drool over the page, permit the new puppy to nibble a corner. Come and see what we have chosen for satisfying summer reading!

Fathers Day is coming up--June 21st to be precise. We have some great manly-man books that would make great gifts for dads--stop on by and tell us about your father (which can be illuminating in and of itself!) and we will suggest a match that will convey your special feelings about your dad. Contrary to rumor, guys do like books.

Jewell is hosting the second meeting this month of The Nerd Herd--that's the name, hence forth of our new Young Adult Book Group--what a great group of folks--and the titles are sure to evoke some interesting conversation. Brenda is putting together the ATC show for the second annual--she invites all who want to give this a try to drop them off at the store in the next couple of weeks. And, get out your cameras--we are going to do our regular Flag Show in July--we'll pin up your photo of Old Glory and celebrate with hot dogs and our famous Flag Cake. Read below for more info on how you can be a part of this celebration of our country's founding.

Stop by on your way to the mountains or the beach! We're looking forward to hearing from you about what you're reading these days!

It's not too late to get your ATC (Artist Trading Card) in ..

Brenda has traded these tiny works of art all over the world--they are always 2.5 x 3.5 and can be done in any media. Try making one and bring it by--it's not half as intimidating as looking at a big empty canvas! Great for getting your creative juices flowing! For more information, stop by on Mondays and talk to Brenda--we'll be accepting them for the first couple of weeks this month. And, we'll host a trading party on Friday, June 26th at 6:00 p.m.!

Take Part in our Annual Flag Photo Show!

American Graffiti by Fawne DeRosia

Bring your photo of the U.S. Flag to the store by June 26th. Photos can be framed, unframed, matted, or just the print but they need to be no more than 24 inches on the longest side. If you don't frame it, please put it in a clear bag with a backboard.

We'll announce our hot dogs and cake reception for later on in July and invite everyone to come and enjoy the photos and the company. Now, what could be better during the hottest time of the year?
